Ok, I need to get more than one done. A couple of these are WIPS and a couple of these have been around a while The wedding gift will be a lap size quilt.

I just got a wedding invitation on Friday, the wedding is Oct 10. In the center of the fabrics is a picture of the plates they have chosen, very colorful, but it is the only thing I have to go on for colors

This is how far I got today

I put this square together this week. It is to make a 24" square pillow for my DD#3. It matches her quilt which is in my avitar. It has been sitting around in pieces for over 4 years. I now need to quilt it and turn it into a pillow with a zipper.

You really have an eye for color. I love bright colors! I also love earth tones. Oh, heck. I love lots of stuff. Don't overwhelm yourself, now. Just pick what you REALLY think you can finish.

(My husband's birthday is Oct 10)

My oldest daughter's birthday is Oct.10 also.

I want to do the challenge also, but I have so many to finish, I'll need to get my priorities straight to see what I can commit to.

Okay, I have been "working" on this for about 10 years. I think it's high time. There are 12 blocks in the kit but I have just had it with applique and settled on 9 to make a quilt work out. I now have my 9 blocks (18" sq.!!) and my setting fabric ( hope it's enough). Here we go!!

GailG 09-02-2009 11:38 AM

AnnaK, those blocks are sooo interesting and gorgeous. Yes, you need to do something with them. (Now, I've got my never encouraging anyone to "do something." I should take my own advice. ) What is the connecting fabric (sashing, etc.)?

Boston1954 09-02-2009 11:39 AM

Go for it AnnaK. I had 9 blocks for a Card Trick that seemed to take forever. I only had 3 or 4 blocks worth of hand quilting to go and got tired of it. So happy I managed to get it done in the last challenge.

Gayle, I love the pictures you posted. I have a couple of questions. Did you have a pattern for the Johnny-Jump-Up - I would love to know how to do that. On the quilt that has the blue scrap pieces in each block - how are those attached or are they attached? It really adds to the blocks themselves. Great work!

AnnaK 09-03-2009 06:59 PM

GailG, the sashing fabric is a small green print that kind of goes with some of the flowers. I am going to have the quilter mimic some of the block designs on the blank setting triangles. No more applique for me! Thanks for the encouragement. I need it. It's going to be a big quilt.

Thank you
The Johnny Jump Up quilt is foundation pieced on muslin. The pattern was more of a look at and then place the first foundation piece but then you just add as you go. It would not be hard to come up with something similar on your own.
The quilt with the little blue pieces are blocks that are attached in rows with just thread. The blue pieces are painters tape I mark the block with so I can keep them in the quilt where they are supposed to be as I sew it together. It is not a completed top waiting to be sandwiched and then quilted.

Jim's Gem 09-03-2009 09:24 PM

Anna K, that is beautiful. I can understand about the applique stuff, I actually avoid it at this point!!

this is terrific (i never have the nerve to applique) and would look gorgeous on point. with whatever sashing you were planning to use, and solids in between, it will come out pretty large. if you put them with dark colors, that light, bright fabric will just jump off the quilt. :P

justwannaquilt 09-10-2009 05:13 PM

woooohooo I got one done. http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/25309.page
I am so happy! Now I get to go buy some Kona cotton tomorrow (on sale 2.88 yd at hancock's till the 13th) for another project!!

Well, I just finished my IRR quilt and mailed it a week ago and then I took my sil's Kitty quilt to the quilter last week as well, but these were actually for the last challenge. I still have my nephews Stack-n-Whack that needs a couple seams repaired and then it will be the next one to the quilter, it will be his Christmas present this year for sure so that one will be before New Year.
I still have 2 others that are started I need to work on, but we will be going to Hawaii for my niece's wedding Thanksgiving, so I will be working on her gifts before these, so they will probably be after the 1st of the year, but oh well, I did get 2 UFO's done this summer so that is progress right....lol
Ofcourse I also already have 2 BOM's and a Red/White and Black planned for next year also, so who knows when I might get back to the UFO's again!!

The first is the "I spy Alaska" quilt. I got it done and gave it to my MIL on Saturday when we were down there visiting.
The Second is a pair of pillows for DD#3, the quilt and 3 other pillows were finished 4 years ago, these have been sitting here in small pieces since then!!!

My UFO is a large gueen size quilt. it is layered and I am hand quilting it. It has 36 Freddie's House blocks on it. I just finished #14. Will start on #15 tomorrow. When I have the houses hand quilted, I will then go to the machine and do the grass and trees that surround each house, by machine. This has been sitting since the year 2000. I know because I put some 2000 fabric on as a border. I'd really like to get it done so I can show it to some of the ladies who made "house blocks" for it.
