After watching a tut on making half square triangles by sewing all around 2 layered blocks, then cutting them into quarters by making an X through them, and ending up with 4 half square triangles, I just had to try it! Needless to say, it was great fun working them up so fast and simply said, that's where they turned into a pile of UFO's. Time marches on and I saw a windmill quilt somewhere, don't recall when or where it was, but I decided to make larger windmills with my "angler" to put the smaller triangles to use. I continue to practice free motion quilting on my Husquvarna Designer SE- some day hope to have some sort of long arm. Also, to try a new (to me) technique from here on the board, I added the flange to the edge of the quilt, and just finished it up this morning! Another UFO done!

Very pretty. Something that starts out so simple turns into such a beauty.

Thanks so much for posting this. I really like it and I am in the process of making up a quilt top using all pinwheels. I thought about it this morning and thought I should set them on point and make more blocks to make a reversible quilt and quilt as I go. I'm going to try your method of making the HSTs. it sounds really easy. I really like the way you did your quilt - it looks terrific!

I cut 1" strips of the light purple, sewed them end to end on the diagonal, then folded & ironed them in 1/2. Next I machine basted the folded strip with it's raw edge along the quilt edge (a bit less than 1/4" from edge). I then put the binding on as usual, machine sewing from the front, and hand sewing to the back. It wasn't hard at all, just took a little extra time, but the day I did it, I was in the mood to try somthing different for this quilt. At first I wasn't even going to have a border, just was planning on binding it...
