Ugly tree skirt
1 Attachment(s)
It's not the prettiest tree skirt, but I did it with the fabrics that I had on hand. The next time I will definitely put some solid fabrics in it & not so many prints. Not a big fan of the ruffle either...makes me think of a square dancing skirt :) I do have a question. The backing called for 1 5/8 of fabric. I cut that size, but I can't figure out how to make the backing fit the skirt. The skirt is too big when I just lay it on my backing fabric & if I would make the backing like I do when I make a quilt it doesn't seem to fit either. Can someone help me & tell me how to make the backing for it?

I like the skirt. If it were red and white it would look like a giant peppermint.

I think it is very pretty!

What is the measurement of your tree skirt across the width?
I like it, and the ruffle is one of the most perfect looking ones I've ever seen!
I am trying to think on how to make the back fit. Could you fold the skirt in half (or in fourths), use that as a pattern, cut two (or four pieces) and then sew those together? Allowing for seam allowances, of course. Just trying to do it in my head without the measurements of the skirt may not be a good idea. :)

I really think the tree skirt is adorable. If you really don't like it, I would be more than happy to give it a home. :D

I think it is very pretty.
I do not see anything wrong with it looks nice good job
Well I don't think it's ugly at all and it looks like it was a lot of work.
I think you did a good job and it looks great.
I LOVE IT wish I could make something like that
Well, I have to say, I agree about the ruffle. I'd take it off, myself. But I like the rest of it and don't think the prints are overkill.
Very pretty, love the design and the ruffle is perfect. Wonderful job.
I like the tree skirt a lot. You did a good job.
Like your tree skirt it is so pretty, you did a fine job with it!
very pretty !!!!
I think the fabric you used is great! It will really catch your eye under the tree. As far as the backing, it looks like you will need to piece it to fit. I have made many and just lay right sides together, sew and trim backing after. Hope it works out for you and Merry Christmas.

The tree skirt is adorable! It could definitely live under my tree.
There's nothing ugly about this! I really like it.
I really like it
It's adorable - and certainly not ugly
I like it. I was planning on making the same skirt. I bought Michael Miller Fairy Frost material, the 10 degree ruler, etc. Then my husband decided he liked another pattern better. Thanks for the heads up on the backing. Now I will be prepared for what to do when I make one. I think it turned out great even the ruffle. Most Christmas skirts have ruffles on them and I think it will look great under the tree.
you did a great job, it is really cute, even the ruffle
Very pretty skirt, but I have no idea how to help you with the backing. Sorry
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I love it.
Love the tree skirt you made. Not sure but if you line up the lining with the skirt circle not including the ruffle ( that shouldn't be lined) i think it will work, but it will be tight. I also agree it will be easier to cut if you fold top and lining in half
good luck |
I love this skirt. It is very colorful and unique, Definitely something I would be proud to use.
Bite your tongue (just kidding), but the skirt is very very pretty... you should be proud not disappointed!
I really like it , hope you can figure out the backing
Wonderful and cheerful skirt :)

You did a very good job on the tree skirt.

Hi I just saw the picture of your christmas tree skirt. It is realy great and I would have loved to wear it for a square dance skirt. That is beside the point, Take your lenght of fabric and unfold it, then fold it in half along the selvage edge. Then draw a quarter circle on the folded edge, and another one on the oppisite corner, when cut out you have one half circle and two half circles and when sewn together will make a circle to use for your lining. Of course be sure to check for the correct size for your tree skirt. If you have any questions, Pm me and I will explain in mor detail. Trish b

So far you've clearly done a good job Debbie. Sorry you are not pleased with the fabrics. That happens to me too. What if you gave up on your current backing fabric and cut a circle to apply to the back out of a large piece of fleece? No binding, hemming or fraying that way. |

Give it to me Put it under my tree Then we sall see Who says yipee! Love it! But I have no math skills to help with the lining. Dina's answer sounds good to me! |
