Under the Yum Yum Tree

I recently joined the Charlotte Quilt Guild and at my first meeting we were told to bring one yard of fabric. I'm thinking...Yeah, I can get rid of one of those 'what was I thinking' fabrics in my stash. So I grabbed one and off I went. I had no idea I would have to actually USE this fabric. We were all placed in groups of 5 and began ripping the fabric. After the first rip we passed one side to the person standing next to us, then ripped that one in half and did the same until we each had 5 pieces of fabric. Then we were told to go home and make a quilt out of it. Now, had I known I would be using this fabric, I expect I would have chosen very differently.... these are the fabrics I had to work with and it was truly a challenge to put them all together! The quilt is about the size of a 'large' t quarter. I quilted the trees first with a layer of batting, cut the batting around the trees and then added another layer of batting and backing, so the trees stand out just a little from the background. One of the photos is a picture of the fabrics. they are numbered 1 being the largest and 5 the smallest.
