The panel name is "Unknown Intruder". I bought it at fabric.com. They've since sold out of this panel, but have replaced it with one of the same name, but a different scene. I am so happy with how this turned out and we're going to have one happy GS! He's nearly 19 and a hunter.

I've put a sleeve on the back to hang this with, since it's smaller than I'd like for a lap quilt for a man, at a finished size of about 40" X 48".

I did some things I haven't done in quilting yet, such as the smaller stippling at top center of the panel, trapunto on the deer, tree trunk on the left, pine on the right and the grass at deer's feet. Still have some improving to do, but overall pretty satisfied with how it turned out!

Thanks for looking.
Helen

How neat!!

But when I read the topic title, Unknown Intruder, the first thing I thought of was the dang mouse I have in my house; and I was wondering how and why anybody would want to make a mouse quilt, ha ha! :D

Funny, Jan! You'll have to set in a stock of food for the winter to keep it happy if you don't catch it soon! lol
I remember my MIL chasing a mouse in her house for weeks. She finally cornered it behind the fridge, then couldn't get it out because the cat kept vigil day and night. They eventually pulled the fridge out so it had to make a move.

Great job and great for a Grandson that hunts.

I made two different deer panel quilts for two of my deer hunting Grandsons, I put borders on them to make them big enough for their beds. They loved them and your Grandson will love this wallhanging.

Great quilting job. Love the panel.

carolynjo 11-18-2012 05:53 PM

Aren't panels fun! You can try quilting techniques you wouldn't want to try on a big quilt. A good job and I know the recipient will love it.

Helen it's looks very nice and I love the scene. I bought one similar to that one. I love the wild life panels they are so nice. Your GS should love that if he's a hunter. It's just beautiful. Sue

That is a beautiful panel and you did a good job with finishing it out into a quilt. Nice!

Helen S 11-20-2012 10:02 AM

Many thanks to everyone for all the great compliments.

We are in awe of the scene on this quilt and keep gazing at it with every opportunity, but alas, it gets wrapped and packaged up today to go into tomorrow's mail. We'll miss it so guess we'll have to either make another one or visit him often! ; )

Our grandson lives in Florida, and is a great hunter, loves all wildlife and is very warm blooded, hence the reason for making this into a wall hanging. I guess it's still big enough to cuddle under if he wanted to, though, but don't see him doing that. He just moved into his own place this past weekend so will be looking for things to hang on his walls, I'm sure. Can't wait to see what he does with it!
