Here's a picture of my Scrappy Double Irish Chain. I just finished putting the borders on. There are several ahead of it for quilting so it will be awhile before it is completed. I hand quilt and it takes me quite awhile to finish one. I think this came out pretty nice. I thought it would be a good way to use up scraps but I didn't even make a dint in my stash. I wasn't sure I would like the green border but it's not to bad. It does bring out the green in the blocks. Besides, it was a large piece out of my stash.

That turned out beautiful. I love the green, gives it a very retro look like "jadeite".

grendelskin 11-23-2010 05:27 AM

It's gorgeous! Funny how you think there are SO many squares when you do the cutting, then you look at the stash afterwards and it's all still present!

Stitchnripper 11-23-2010 05:28 AM

The small squares are 2 1/2 in. Large white block is 6 1/2 in and the sides to the white block are 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. The instructions were for strip pieceing but I had a bunch f 2 1/2 in blocks already cut out so I pieced it the old fashioned way, just sewing them together indifidually.

There is a reason for the retro look. That piece of green is vintage. It was only 35 in wide. I have a remarkable stash of vintage fabric. Sometimes I just luck out with the right shade. I didn't think I would like it at first but when I got it attached it really looked good.

Thank you! I don't know why but looking at the picture I thought you were using 4" blocks. It really is perfect!
