Beautiful work! I have become very interested in minis after going to a mini gallery show a few weeks ago. I keep thinking it would be a great way to use up scraps from larger quilts I've made; colours already co-ordinated, and a "souvenir" I guess of a quilt I've given away.
Where do you source patterns? Are you aware of any books that would be good to get me started?
Any help would be great.

Gorgeous! The fabrics are so fun to look at.

DA Mayer 06-28-2008 05:20 AM

Those fabrics are so rich. How big does a mini measure?

jacquemoe 06-28-2008 05:22 AM

VERY NICE JOB, I must say.

mgshaw 06-28-2008 07:37 AM

I'm sorry, I should have posted before that it measures 16" square. There are rules as to what constitutes a true mini, and I don't know them. I have several books that I've gotten from my DMIL that have mini quilt patterns in them and I've purchased two from a LQS that were authored by Elizabeth H. Carlson. I got the Miniature Medley and Traditions in Miniature after seeing the Christmas one made up at the shop. I did the Lonestar which finished just under 10", and then made another one a little larger which finished at 16 1/2". I'll post photos of those here as well. Here is a link to her website:

Thanks for all the compliments, Helen

I can't get the link to work so you'll need to copy and paste it into your browser. Sorry!

Here are the other two. Enjoy, Helen

The first one is the 16 1/2" one and the second picture of the first one shows the true color better. It has something to do with the flash and the lighting. The blue one is the smallest at just under 10" and I made it for a block lotto at a retreat I went to. I have two other minis I've made but I've not photographed them yet.

Those are wonderful. I really like them.

They are all beautiful.

Beautiful workmanship, these are real treasures!! :D

Lone stars are always a hit with me, and I love the warm colors. Blue and whites are classics, though. They are both stunning.

DA Mayer 06-28-2008 02:18 PM

I would love to do a lone star some day, yours are so pretty, what are you going to do with them?

ripstitch 06-28-2008 03:56 PM

Thanks all for looking.

DA Mayer - all of these were made for swaps and a block lotto. The other two I haven't taken pics of yet are mine.

Thanks again everyone, Helen

Just beautiful. I tried to make that star once. Note emphasis on tried.

Needless to say, I couldn't. I failed miserably. I failed so miserably, it wasn't even worthy of "hot pad" status. It went in the trash with all my ambition.

ripstitch 06-29-2008 03:57 PM

Cordelia,

The only way, IMHO, to make this star is by strip piecing. I sewed all the strips together and then cut the diamond pieces out and then sewed them together. After doing the first one, the second one went real easy and the next ones will also be easier. I would strongly encourage you to try again.

Cheers, Helen

Beautiful minis. They are perfection.

Quilt4u 06-30-2008 01:35 AM

Love them all but I have to say the blue is my favorite.

BEAUTIFUL!

DreamXer 06-30-2008 04:34 PM

Love the lone stars! A favourite pattern of mine! Tried one once and will go back to it, but not yet... it has to stew a bit longer in its hiding spot!
Really like the colours in your bow tie!
There used to be a magazine called miniature quilts - I had a copy but it's lost in the box room - it had the cutest mini kitty quilt... maybe Courtepointe you could try looking for this title online.

ripstitch 06-30-2008 05:16 PM

Wow, thanks everyone.

Helen

I really liked the bow tie and then I saw the Lonestar. Mini's with bias edges like that are really challenging! Both are beautiful.
