Used & New machine needles storage etc...

I was getting ready to do some sewing today, but I needed to change
the needle I had been using yesterday which was a Universal 100/16 for the heavier fabric/thread. In my search for the correct needle type & size I realized I had way more than I originally thought I had. So I was trying to think of a good way to store, sort, and label them for quick identification. This is what I came up with. http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=492610&stc=1 http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=492611&stc=1 The container is from the Crisco sticks shortening. At one point when I had used all three sticks I washed (thoroughly), and saved the container with the lid. I found the packs of needles fir perfectly in them. I also used the the small sticky flags to identify each type & size of needles. Such as the 70/10 Sharps, 90/14 Sharps, 90/14 Quilting etc... I always KNEW these little Crisco containers would come in handy today I found it. Just wish there was more lids included. On another but still about needles. Something that I have always done (when I can remember) is when I take a need out mark the flat side with a bright (red usually) sharpie, than put it back into the needle pack and write "used" so that I can remember the info about the needle (type, size etc). http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=492615&stc=1 Just thought I would share. |

what a great idea :)
thanks |
Holy buckets, you're organized! That's a great idea. I always forget how many needles I'm hoading, and keep buying the same ones.

I could have sworn that I had some Universal 90/14 needles that is
the main reason why I pulled all my needle out to look for them. Alas that is one of the few I DON'T have anymore left. Need to buy some more again. |
I had a large daily pill container and the needle packs fit in very nicely. Its nice to find new uses for things.

I love your Crisco organizer! I start out organize, but everything always get mixed up again. I'm a messy worker. So now I just write on the plastic that the needles come in. I do, however, manage to keep my ME needles separate from my quilting needles.

Great idea. You should send that to one of the quilting magazines that are always asking for tips.
