Using Children's Art

I was so taken with a piece of "frig art" I decided to gift it to the grandparents.
The colour was wonderful and the simplicity just made this a perfect candidate for a raw appliqued piece. The black crayoned outlines are couched wool. 2'x3'

Beautiful and special! What a great idea, translating a drawing into a quilt.

Cool! It reminds me of the painters Matisse's later art works in cut paper.

a great way to document those fleeting frig arts

ArtsyOne 11-10-2017 02:41 PM

That's great!

What is frig art?

MaryKatherine 11-10-2017 03:07 PM

Frig art is children's school art attached to the refrigerator usually with a magnet.

Good job!!

I love, love, love this!

Oh this is so sweet! A couple of years ago our guild president gave us the challenge of duplicating a child or grandchild's art in fabric. I had to make two so that neither DGD was left out, and made them into hot pads. After the challenge, I gifted them back to Mom and Dad along with the original art. It was so much fun!!

oh, now I know I'm old school...I would have identified it as "fridge" art.....

Kid’s art is always the best. Such an unspoiled and uncomplicated way of looking at things.

That's so cool, I have to take a look at some of my oldest grand daughter's frig art that is curly around the edges see if I can do this with any of her's. Thanks for sharing, this maybe the most special gift I give her for her 27th birthday at the end of the month.

Love your art piece, it is certainly bright and colorful. Have done this with some of the grands art projects too.

That's wonderful! You did a great job with it.

quilterpurpledog 11-12-2017 10:52 AM

Great commemoration of a child's wonderful imagination. I know the grandparents will treasure this long after the paper copy just plain falls apart.

Mariah 11-13-2017 08:22 AM

Love it! The colors are so bright and cheerfuL.
I am wondering if you know how to transfer a piece like this to fabric. I have read you can do this, but need to know: How hot to have the iron and how long to use the iron on it for the transfer. Also, do you use something over it when done so that it won't flake/peel off? Also how it does in the washing machine.
If you can answer some of these questions, would you pm me the answers? Thanks, Mariah
