We had so much fun making (and repairing) these, we thought we would share them with you.

The mailbox door. There's a matching Valentine bear on the other end.

Alicia's first Valentine's box, we used an oatmeal box, cornflake box, batting, fabric, ribbon, lace and some fabric cutouts covered in diamond dust. She was going to "sew" the cutouts, but opted for diamond dust instead.

Jasmine was easy again this year. This will be the 3rd time this one is being used at school. One of her friends accidently stepped on it last year, so it had a little damage that we repaired, and added some additional lace, ribbon and roses to the top. She says shes gonna use it every year, but I think we may have to retire it after this one. Trying to convince her we can keep this one...and have even more fun making a new one next year.

Some new ribbon and lace and a reinforced from the inside lid and its good as new.

Oh Lisa those are so cute! And it brought back memories for me ...when I had to make a box and then when my kids did for school....of course ours weren't so elaborate....construction paper (red and white) and glue! LOL

Thanks ladies :) I always love an opportunity to help the girls learn to recycle...holidays always seem to provide the best opportunities. An added plus, they both want to eat oatmeal more often because "those boxes make really cool stuff!". LOL Normally we use them as throw away trash cans, but this is a much better way to utilize them. They have all kinds of ideas now :).

jbsstrawberry, My mother crocheted a little drawstring purse for me when I was your daughters age. She formed it over a fabric covered small oatmeal carton bottom. It was about 3-4 inches deep. I still have the crocheted part but need to make another bottom form so my granddaughter can use it. It was my Easter purse!

P.S.
Those have to be the cutest valentine boxes I've ever seen. I taught kindergarten and first grade for 30+ years so I know!

 ahhh thanks Yvonne! that means a lot coming from an expert! Thanks for the purse idea! I have some lavendar sateen leftover from my granddaughter's Halloween dress that would be perfect to cover the oatmeal box with too. I may have to make this addition to their Easter baskets this year!!

It looks like you and the girls have such a good time. My daughter and I used to do that and now she is doing it with Ashley age 4 going on 34! The boxes were just beautiful :!:

Aww! Those are too cute. You are such a great mom! BDor is right, your girls will think back about all of the times they spent making things and learning things with and from their mom. :)
