I started this quilt on Sept. 1, 2009. I started a different quilt for my Sister-in-law in Aug. I finished it Nov. 16. It was a king size 110" x 110" 8 point star (6" with frame to make 9") out of greens. I made and completed my granddaughter, my husband, me, my youngest daughter April each rag quilts. I also made my oldest daughter Shawna a rag quilt, but my carpel tunnel was acting up so I couldn't clip it until Feb. Plus, I started the Field of Diamonds quilt that I'm working on now and made 28 blocks on it. But, I finished Shawna's quilt on Jan. 7th. I made this quilt in 4 months but in that 4 months, I also made a king size quilt and 5 rag quilts. I don't know how long it would of taken if I hadn't worked on anything but it. Oh yeah! And on Christmas Eve, I started on Dawn's Carpenter Star quilt that I posted. I had made 14 blocks for Dawn's before I finished Shawna's. Plus there were other blocks that we decided not to use after all in Shawna's quilt and the Field of Diamond blocks.
So, I would guess that it would of probably taken 3 months or so, had I of just stuck to one at a time.

As for the pieces in this quilt, there are 6,023 pieces in this top.
It takes me almost 4 hours to make one block. All I do is quilt.
I admit it! LOL I love it!

Is it called something else?

I never could find a pattern for it either. I looked for months, but I absolutely loved the pattern, so I made my own. I just saw a picture of one on eBay once. I didn't know much about quilting at the time, as I had only been quilting for about 6 months. I just used all 2 1/2" squares, not even realizing that that wouldn't work since some were squares in it and some were half squares. Then, I didn't know how big they should
be, so I sewed all the like 4 patches together and then decided on a size and cut them down. It was hilarious! Check out the pictures I took.

I have the book call "Simple Stars Beautiful Quilts" by Debbie Maddy, there are no Diamonds and no Y Seams. This book only has directions for Carpenter's Star 70 x70 and Bali Sky Wall Quilt 36x36.... the lay out in this book is just a little different than yours.

You did an excellent job designing that block...

This quilt is stunning...this is one you should be proud of. Love you fabric choice.

I found a Carpenter's Wheel block on Quilters Cache. It's written for a 24" block but it tells you how to make a 12 " block, too.

Thank You! I had never seen one before so I had no idea what size they were suppose to be. I guess that's what happens when you just see a pattern that you like and make your own! LOL I didn't know they weren't just 12" blocks! Well, I was lucky that it turned out so good then. LOL
