This is that "Sunny Day" (my name) pattern I love. I've already made two of it--a keeper (Sunny Day), and I think one will be sold (sunflower one) even though it's not back from the quilter's yet. It sold off my website. :D
I had a heck of a time deciding on the 5 strips--found the blue--a perfect match--in my stash closet--a miracle indeed. The green is actually a print that goes with the daisy fabric. But I don't like how it matches any better than the others. I could not figure out the arrangement of the 5 strips for the one square, so I finally asked my daughter for help. Without hesitation she said, "Mom, go read, orange, yellow, green, blue. It's scientific. Rainbow colors...." I laid it out that way, and a few other ways, took pictures to look at, and sure enough, it was easily the winner. I was going to give her Bio/Chem college major the credit, but she gave the credit to Barney--that purple dinosaur she and her brother used to watch. Seems he had a song about rainbow colors she remembers. This is 5/12 rows to be done. It'll have 3 borders. |
So pretty! I think you got the color arrangement just right :!: :D
|
Its so cute Karla!!! Love the fabrics! Which ones are the borders going to be from? Cant wait to see!!!

Thank you everyone. :D Melissa--it'll take me forever to think through borders, but the decision may be easier becasue I may not have enough of some colors. I'll have to check. I'm open to suggestions. :D
The pattern calls for a wide border of the solid square fabric, but I've always thought that'd be way too busy. Here are the others I did. The sunflower one is bigger--I decided to shrink everything for the others. |
Beautiful, such a happy quilt :D :D :D can't wait to see what you choose for your borders! :D :D :D
|
I love it!
It's so bright and cheery! Sure is a Sunny Day!! :) |
Beautiful! Love the colors.
|
Oh wow Karla, very beautiful!!! :)
|
How about 1rst border - yellow, 2nd- floral, 3rd - red? ( I love red!!)
Or just repeating your color sequence in reverse. Its going to look good with any of the fabrics!!!! NOt much help huh? |
Oh the other quilts are gorgeous too!
|
Another beautiful quilt, Karla! The colors look perfect!
I simply do not know where you get all your energy! I get tired just THINKING of doing all you do! :D  If there were some way to bottle up whatever it is, you'd be selling a lot of it! |
Bright & cheery looking. I love it. GREAT JOB!
|
They're great, I love all 3 quilts!
I really like how you posted the close up photo of the stripes showing the prints. |
Celeste--is this a bad time to mention I also finished another barn wall hanging top for my niece?
 How did your barn quilt turn out? |
What a yummy quilt!
See, it just goes to show you that NOTHING you do for a kid is ever wasted! |
I want that quilt it makes me feel good just looking at it, keep up the nice work
|

Those are very bright and cheerful. That's too funny about what your daughter said. BASIC colors. My grandson is almost 2 1/2 and he's outgrown Barney and I sure got my fill of him this time, for the second round with grandchildren. And I was feeling bad because I thought you didn't have a quilter :( . I wish I could be your quilter. Too bad we live at opposite ends of the world, nearly.

Ahhhh Ooooohhhh I like it alot:)
|
I like your ideas a whole lot - they look far more difficult at first glance than when you look at them closely. SUPER job!

cool....
where did you find the pattern? I really love patterns that look complicated and dramatic but when you get to looking real close you find out they are very simple.... |
oooooooooooh I love it!!!
Trevor and I picked out a strip quilt that I will make for our friends who are getting married this August. We sat down the other night and I had him go through a bunch of books and magazines to choose a quilt pattern for his best friend's wedding. We decided on a nice strippy quilt from the "Open a Can of Worms" book. It has 26 worms :) I have a full day workshop to go to on Monday. At the end of the workshop I will get him to stay at the quilt shop a bit longer before driving home so we can choose some colours for the quilt. I will need to get a start on that quilt very fast!!!! Barnbum I loooove your Sunny Day quilt!!! cheers |
I love the bright colors-your stripes really draw out every color in the sunflower fabrics. Beautiful!
|
Pretty, pretty! And just perfect for summer!
|
Gotta love Barney. Although my 16 yr old would NEVER admit it, we used to watch Barney every day before naptime. He even had Barney tennis shoes...I don't know if it's still popular or not.
The quilt is so cheery and bright. It would be perfect in my red kitchen. Julie |
barney was right it really worked good tog

Karla ~ I loved every single one of them, but the Sunflower is my absolute favorite. Amazing how the choice of fabrics turns a simple pattern into a whole new look. I know you called it your "Sunny Day" quilt, but is there a pattern that I can purchase? This is definitely my type of quilt to make, since I get frustrated with anything too challenging. I'd rather concentrate on having fun with the fabrics. Just love these quilts and would be grateful if you would share any info w/ me so I can make one myself. Thanks so much, Nita
