This is the very first quilt I made 2 years ago. I finally finished it last night for my DH and DS. I bought the cheapest material I could find (top, backing, batting, pattern for a total of $65). I had no idea what I was doing but wanted to try to make a quilt. I've made 10 since then and haven't looked back! You definitely learn something new with each project. I try to challenge myself and throw in one new technique with each one.

Sandra, I do the same thing. Try something new with each project. Recently made a baby quilt with prairie points. They were so much fun and really made the quilt special.

Great job! Your story sounds a bit like mine-bought really cheap fabric (it's all we had in Vanuatu where I lived) and took a week-end class. Same for the second quilt (which was SO ugly!)which was a queen size! I hand quilted 3/4 of it, and hated it so much, I didn't finish it for 10 years! Never picked up a needle in that time! Got the notion to try again, so I finished it just to see if I liked quilting, and have never stopped!!! I have made about 35 quilts, and still counting! During the last 9 years I have developed an appreciation for good-quality quilting fabrics which I buy in the US! Your first quilt is SO much nicer than mine, by the way!!

Jim's Gem 08-10-2011 11:46 AM
