Veteran Donation Quilt

2 Attachment(s)
Our local small museum (about 1500 sq. ft.) is holding Veterans benefit day. I have been very sick for the last three weeks with shingles but I so wanted to make a little something that they could sell raffle tickets for so this is what I threw together. Not fancy, not perfect but as Jenny Doan says, "finished is better than perfect. Thanks for looking.

Front. It looks a little wonky because I am very short
and this is the best I could do with it on the floor

Back. Pieced together from scraps. The outside red
pieces are a very small red print.

Not healed yet. Still cannot wear clothes. Never want to deal with shingles again. My advice is to get the shot. Thanks

Beautiful quilt! Glad you are feeling better! Shingles are nasty! My doc says I am walking proof that everyone needs a shingles shot! Still battling flare ups over 3 years later!

It is lovely, wonderful, a treasure. Feel better! I am amazed you were able to do this while struggling with Shingles. Thank you for donating this for Veterans, too.

Good to know. I had the first one and still got shingles, but it was very mild and not much bother at all.

twinkie - I can't believe you just "threw that together." It's beautiful.

patsan 10-29-2017 10:51 AM

My youngest son had shingles when he was in his upper 20s. He is now almost 35. He suffered horribly. He does have a weakened immune system from dealing with Crohn's Disease. I did have the shingles shot a few years ago and hope it provides protection for me.

While living in skilled care my mom complained of chest pain, which she frequently experienced, which would sent her to the E.R. One of these trips was actually Shingles. She was quarantined to her room for weeks. It went up her chest, neck, face and scalp. It was horrible.
Yes, think I'll get the vaccine!

First, so sorry you have shingles. That is so uncomfortable. But in spite of that your work is lovely and will be appreciated.

sprice 10-31-2017 04:31 AM

Hope you are feeling better soon, Twinkie. Love your quilt. I think RW&B always works!

SusieQOH 10-31-2017 05:16 AM

Oh no, not shingles!! I'm so sorry you've had a bad case of it. Hope you're on the mend.
Now to get that shot- thanks for the reminder.
I love your quilt.

carolynjo 10-31-2017 05:18 AM

So sorry you have been dealing with shingles! We had the first two shots administered in our area and both of us have had a few lesions recently. Guess it's time to check out getting a booster.

Jules51 10-31-2017 02:50 PM

Nicely done. I'm impressed with what you threw together for the raffle--Hope it brings pleasure to whoever wins the raffle. My God bless you and grant you a speedy recovery.

Sewbeeit2 10-31-2017 05:03 PM
