Here's another mystery machine. It's hardly a quiz, nothing cryptic, just a guessing game.

Earlier this year this machine popped up on Ebay. The advert was brief, it said that it was a Singer hand machine in good working order, Buy it Now, £5. And this is all the photo showed, the case. So I sent a message to the seller asking would they put a photo up of the machine please, and they replied, oops, forgot to upload the picture, yes they will. Then I thought about it. If it's a good machine and somebody else sees it first, it's gone. It was within an easy distance for me to go and pick it up. The case is in good condition, so that suggests that the machine should be pretty good. Even if it's not fantastic, it could be good for parts. And the case alone was worth the money.

So yes, you guessed it. I hit the Buy it Now button and gambled a fiver. When I contacted the seller to arrange to pick it up I asked her what model it was. She hadn't a clue. So it was all suspense until a few days later when I arrived to collect it and she took off the lid.

Now you can all experience the same suspense until I post the pictures on the Vintage Machine Shop Photos thread. See if you can guess the model, year, and decals. I won't be giving any clues, so jump straight in with a guess.

Sorry, no prizes. Just a bit of a lark.

I had just seen a machine a couple weeks ago at a garage sale and i bought the White machine for 15.00 and the one above in the rounded case the lady wanted 175.00 firm on it . Funny hey was the same case but i never bought it a to costly i thought.

Oh Muv! I love your stories and guessing games! I say a Singer 99...maybe 99-13?.

Annaquilts 07-05-2011 03:23 PM

Singer 66 red eye
Singer 127 Lotus
Singer 27 with Sphinx decals
Singer 99 Filligree
singer 28 rococo
singer 128 celtic swirl
Singer 15 RAF decal

is it made in Scottland?

Bonbonary 07-05-2011 03:28 PM

Can't wait to see the machine. Was the case empty?

intoquilting 07-05-2011 03:37 PM

No guess but I hope you show us the machine.

Muv 07-05-2011 03:38 PM

Well Anna, you're hedging your bets! Keep on going, your guesses are as good as mine were before I saw it.

Bonbonary, lucky for the seller the case wasn't empty - you'd have heard the explosion from where you are.

No, it's not a trick question. It was a Singer, as it says on the case.

Good night everyone. Way past my bed time

Annaquilts 07-05-2011 03:39 PM

Oh no it is plenty of early here. You are going to leave us in suspence. LOL

Still trying to figure that out.
Since I don't see a hole on the base for the knee thingy, it must have come with motor. Does it have one of the foot pedals that are shaped as a foot? Those are cool looking!
I still say Singer 99-13 in that shaped box. Does it also have the wooden side, extension lip? or whatever they are called...another nice feature.

Sometime in the 1940s. around 1941

jljack 07-06-2011 09:36 AM

I have a 1928 99 with that same handle on the case, so I am guessing around then...so, 1928.

Muv 07-06-2011 01:14 PM

Well, before I collected it I thought I was probably going to get a 28k circa 1910 with Victorian decals.

However, tonight's winner has to be Dreamboat Dorothy McNutt of Dallas, who limited herself to saying Singer 99K, and was spot on! So an invisible box of chocolates to her, and a bar of invisible chocolate to Anna Quilts for saying filigree, and another to NauDeeGal for being only one digit out on the year, which was 1916.

I hope you've had fun. The photos are going up on the Vintage Machine Photos thread in a few minutes.

Thank you to NauDeeGal and Vintagemotif for the birthday greetings - I'm amazed you noticed!

Thanks for the fun guessing game!

Glenn 07-06-2011 02:27 PM

128 With belt driven motor
glenn

Annaquilts 07-06-2011 04:04 PM

I think it is 1910-1920 range.

Oh there you go! How fun. The 99 is a hand crank? Awesome!
