Vintage quilt tops #11 & #12 quilted - project done!

Below are pics of two more vintage quilt tops that I just finished making into quilts. The tops were made (all hand-pieced) by Mary Susan (Weathers) Senter, and she was born in 1843 and died in 1937 at age 93. She married Robert Winthrop Senter in 1861 when she was 18. The style of the fabrics look to be early 1900s to 1930s, but it is amazing how vibrant the colors are still in them now, about a hundred years later.

These are the final ones of twelve tops that belonged to a couple that I'm good friends with (he's the grandson of Mary Susan Senter). I quilted all 12 tops for them, so this will complete the project now that I started back in 2009. I'm glad to have these all done now, but it was really an honor working on these quilts that were started so long ago. As a quilter, I like to think that Mary Susan would be glad to finally see her work completed.

It is always good to see the older tops finished and I'm sure that she is looking down and smiling! Great job Eddie.:)

Your quilting is lovely and her piecing is beautiful. I am always happy to see older tops finished. Thanks for sharing.

Nice quilting and how nice for you that you had the opportunity to work on those family treasures. A job well done!

BeckyL 11-26-2011 12:02 PM

Wonderful, wonderful.

kwilter 11-26-2011 12:06 PM

Great job, Eddie! You make these wonderful old quilt come to life. :o There is so much charm in the antique fabrics from back in the day! I, too, have several of tops and blocks to put together and the ones you've done are an inspiration. How especially awesome that you are aware of the maker!

QuiltnNan 11-26-2011 12:15 PM

Eddie, these are gorgeous! thanks for sharing.

northern lass 11-26-2011 12:38 PM

Hard to believe they are so old. The colours are so bright and crisp

spartan quilter 11-26-2011 02:38 PM

They are just beautiful. They have been stored well, to retain the bright colors. Great job.

Bobbielinks 11-26-2011 02:50 PM

Beautiful work! How great that you know the grandson of the maker and some of the family history of these quilts. Thank you very much for sharing.

RUSewing 11-26-2011 03:10 PM

Very nice! So often quilt tops have no history and unknown makers (important - label!). What skill and design sense Mrs. Senter had and no rotary cutter or fancy sewing machine!

mesue 11-26-2011 03:13 PM

Wow the colors are amazing! Nice to see them finally finished. I wonder if someone will be finishing my unfinished projects 100 years from now?

malega 11-26-2011 03:40 PM

That is very beautiful.

mommessy 11-26-2011 03:41 PM

You can't get any better than a quilt which is already a heirloom. These are truely amazing. Excellent job bringing these quilt tops to life, and such wonderful piecing done in bygone years. Sensational.

boxerlady 11-27-2011 07:51 AM

Beautiful quilts, wonderful story. I love the older quilts, the women used what they had. As others have said, I'm sure the woman that pieced these is smiling down knowing that these are appreciated.

Evie 11-27-2011 08:28 AM

Beautiful work, Eddie. You should put together a slide show of the 12 quilts you've done for Mrs. Senter. I for one would love to see them all together! :)

sewmorethings 11-27-2011 08:58 AM

They are beautiful and i commend you for taking on such a task, great job

beatys9 11-27-2011 11:24 AM

How wonderful to see these finished. You are right about the colors - amazing how great they still look.

Sadheart 11-27-2011 11:34 AM

Thank you for sharing the history as well as the tops. As always your talents shine thru. The fabrics look as if she had just finished the piecing.

boohoofish 11-27-2011 12:09 PM

Thanks for sharing the antique quilts with us. Amazing about the colors still being so bright and now that they are all finished they can be well used. Carol

ilovetosew 11-27-2011 12:28 PM

Rumbols 11-27-2011 01:15 PM

So beautiful. Looks like a real labor of love. Great job.

ragqueen03 11-27-2011 01:17 PM

You did a beautiful job on them Eddie. I love to look at the older quilts - how the colors retained their brightness after so long but it makes me wonder - will the fabrics we use today still look as bright and colorful 100 years from now? I sure hope so! I like how you gave us a little bit of history on them too. She is smiling down at you right now I am sure.

Nikki and Co. 11-27-2011 01:34 PM
