waiting for first granddaughter...

2 Attachment(s)
I have finished a quilt for our first granddaughter (and second grandchild) who is due to arrive at any time. The parents are decorating with purple and pink dinosaurs (!). I couldn't find any dino fabric that I liked in those colors, so this is what I came up with. It's far from perfect, but I'm fine with that. :) I named it Tummy Time Quilt, something we didn't have to do when my kids were babies.

I made a baby doll quilt with some of the leftover scraps. (I bought the baby doll.) :)

Really cute! I love the flowers! I also made a "tummy time" quilt and matching doll quilt for my first gd and she loves the doll quilt! I think she likes the size.

Wonderful!!! They'll love it!! love that doll quilt too. Where did you find the polka dot border fabric? I need to get some of that type to have for borders, etc.

I looked up the purple dot fabric (no name on the selvages), and it is from the Jungle Baby line by Studio E. I bought it on sale at a local quilt shop a few months but perhaps you can find it online.

The quilt is so pretty. I also like the flowers you added. The doll quilt with the little doll is so pretty as a total special package for the new little girl. I am sure the parents will use the beautiful quilt.

That dino fabric is adorable...and you showcased it perfectly in both quilts. Lucky little girl.

That is all just so cute!! She's going to love the baby doll. Love her name! Our nephews and nieces kids have vintage lace names (what I call them).

Super cute! Matching doll quilts are so cute. We (DD and I) made a matching doll quilt for big sister. I think they both use both lol. :D

Love, the cute quilt!! Did you have a pattern for the adoreable flowers?? if so may I have the name of it?? Tinker

Thanks for the nice comments. Our granddaughter arrived on the first day of spring--8 lbs. 2 oz! I won't get to hold her for awhile--they live on the other coast from us, but we'll visit them later this spring. The quilts are on their way via mail. Hope they arrive with no problems.

Tinker, the flowers are just yoyos and I used a fabric center stuffed with a little batting that I sewed on top of the yoyo. For the yoyo, you cut out a circle of fabric about twice the diameter of the finished flower that you want. Some use buttons for their flower centers but I didn't want buttons on a baby quilt. I made the larger flower a double one--just two yoyos of different sizes sewn together.

Here is a link to one yoyo flower tutorial.

The leaves are just free form cut outs. I sewed two leaf shapes, right sides together, then turned them right side out. Because I cut a slit in the back of the leaves to turn them and stuff a little batting inside, I sewed the leaves to the quilt top about a quarter inch from the edge, so they are a little bit 3-dimensional. Probably not the best way, but I'll know better next time!

Hope this helps.
