This is beautiful! I am handquilting a sampler I made, my first project. I think my stitches will be as varied as the sampler blocks, getting better as I go ( I think).

What thread and needle size did you use?

I love to use the YLI thread for hand quilting. It has a wonderful coating that keeps it from knotting up so much. As to needle size, I really don't remember what size I "settled" on. I read somewhere how to figure out the correct needle for hand quilters and this works for me: Measure the length of your forefinger to the very 1st knuckle. This is how long your needle should be. Yeah, I thought it sounded kind of funny too and I got some really strange looks at my LQS.....

This is also the first quilt that I used 80/20 batting while hand quilting. It really is easier to quilt thru than 100% cotton....

Enjoy!

BEAUTIFUL hand stitching!!! Thank you for the close up!!!!

It's me again. I went looking for your thread, YLI 40 weight/3ply 100% glazed cotton thread" today. I found 40 weight, but it doesn't show that is 3ply so just guessed that it was. I am wondering if the YLI is a brand name or what is the brand name? Also where did you find it? Thanks. I really do like the look of your quilt.

mrsk 07-01-2010 11:18 AM

Sure looks amazing to me. I couldn't begin to hope for results that great!

Leann 07-01-2010 12:11 PM

I think your stitches are beautiful. You are braver than I am.

YLI is a brand name and I bought it at my local LQS.

However, I did find this online: http://www.redrockthreads.com/yli-th...ing-thread.asp
