Made using the technique from Cathy Geier's book. I used Vilene with a pre-printed grid to layout the squares. I moved the seagull as I wanted him looking into the quilt - he actually started life as a pied wagtail on a preprinted bird fabric - I cut him skinnier and coloured him with fabric crayons. The sun is gold tulle laid on with Misty Fuse and then FMQd with Superior gold metallic, Angelina fibres put some sparkle in the sea and the landscape, sky and water are all FMQd with topographical lines, waves, pebbles, rock shapes etc... It is 40" x 28". Thanks for looking. :-D

Beautiful! It is interesting how you changed it to create a more artistic quilt.

Oh my heavens am I impressed. Thank you for showing the original photo. That is wonderful. I noticed all that pebble quilting in that last photo. They look great in that area. I spent a long time looking at the photos. I was just so taken with the fabrics you used for the effects.

WOW, WONDERFUL. I keep looking at the photos too, you did a great job.

Now you have my creative juices flowing and thinking how I could make something like that for a challenge I have.

Thank you! As well as moving the gull on the post, I made the hills more hilly and the rocks more rocky. :)

Thanks Deb - and it was such fun too - like being a painter with a palette of colours. I'll definitely do another - I enjoyed the process in the same way as I enjoy OBW, all that fiddling about moving squares here and there and probably back again. That's what the process reminded me of.

Anyone wanting to have a go, I'd recommend the book. She tells you how to use your own photos and there are also some step by step projects in there if you feel you need that to start with. :D

PS important thing - bear in mind your light source, mine is top right. Makes a lot of difference I think. Plus I used the wrong side of some fabrics to suggest light and shade. :-D

I love it!!! It's a totally different tecnique than the one I used, but I love the effect. Your quilting really finishes the quilt beautifully. Great job.

I have only just recently seen a show on the Jurasic Coast (Escape to the Country, I love this show  The houses have so much character ) it looks stunning and it would be such an interesting place to visit.

I love that show too and I think I saw that one. The houses in Lyme Regis on the seafront have hexagonal tiles on their facades and my dream is to buy one then get an artist to come and paint an OBW pattern on it - assuming I'd get planning permission of course!
