I deemed President's Day to be Sewing Day. Great way to spend a day off. :) This is the first tote I've made. Made a few mistakes, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

The Valentine quilt top is finished, but not backed. I love mitering the corners! Any suggestions on how to quilt it? (I do pretty simple machine quilting and this is a busy pattern, so I wouldn't want anything too complicated.)

Ooh, beautiful. I really like the valentines one.

You had a productive and fun weekend! Great job on both. Love your fabrics!

Love the Valentine wallhanging...and the way the pattern came out with the stripes. I'll have to keep that in mind when I do another Trip around the world quilt.

sewjoyce 02-17-2009 07:48 AM

The Valentine quilt is just gorgeous!! And I like your tote too!!!

HisSunshine 02-17-2009 07:55 AM

Thanks. :) I love the Valentines quilt too, even if it does make you go a little cross-eyed if you look at it too long. haha

Any suggestions for quilting it?? I really have no idea what to do with it!

Cute tote. Love the Valentine quilt. Maybe simple diamonds would set it off nice.

Quilt4u 02-17-2009 09:32 AM

Very nice.

Lovely - I had the same thought as littlehud for the quilting, diamonds - girl's best friend after all! lol

Do you mean to quilt diagonally following the overall diamond pattern? Or quilt diamons in individual squares...or something else entirely that I'm missing?

k3n 02-17-2009 10:02 AM

I meant to quilt diagonally through the squares in the same fabric, was that your idea too, Loretta?

Ok, that's what I was hoping you meant. :) I think that would look good. Thanks! I'll get around to that one of these days - machine quilting is my least favorite part! :?

These are great! Love them both! I especially like how you used the striped fabric.

CindyBee 02-17-2009 03:32 PM

For machine quilting may I suggest echo stitching around the center heart extending just to the striped fabric. Then echo the diamond pattern and add hearts in each corner.

crkathleen 02-17-2009 03:34 PM

I love the tote! I plan on making some for the grocery store so I don't have to use the plastic bags and the quilt is georgous! You did a wonderful job!!

Marcia 02-17-2009 06:05 PM

Your tote bag is really cute-I love the fabrics that you used.

Cute valentine wall hanging!!

I designed the Valentine wallhanging myself, so there's no pattern for it. I did the layout in Excel - first with solid blocks, then with images of the fabric from the fatquartershop. I used the Candy Kisses Petite fat quarter bundle, plus another yard for backing. The squares were 3" cut and 2.5" finished, and the heart in the center is machine appliqued.

Hope that made sense. :)

The Valentine wall hanging is sweet love the design. The bag is cute to love the fabric choices. You have been very busy this weekend. :D :D

Wow, both projects are wonderful. Can't suggest quilting ideas as I'm new to that part of my quilting passion but IF I were going to do it, I might just do a stitch in the ditch ...I'm sure someone on the board will have great suggestions for you. Thanks for sharing.
