Wow, great job. Hope you enjoy her.

Fantastic job. I'm a great fan of cleaning up machines (check out my profile) but I steer clear of rusty machines because I know how much work is involved. But if it's a family heirloom you have no choice, you have to tackle the rust! You will have hours of fun using that machine.
A solution of white vinegar and salt is a good rust cleaner. If I remember right the proportions are 2 tablespoons of salt to a quart of vinegar - but I'll have to check. As for coke, if it cleans rust, what does it do to your insides? No prizes for guessing what I think of coke. |
WOW

Got two to refinish gonna show DH this thread thanks for posting!

Wow! Don't even know how you could possibly removed the rust!

We can see that you put your heart and soul into this project with great results.

Fabulous! I never would have undertaken such a project!

Wow! I would not have imagined anything that started out like that turning out so beautiful. Nice job!

Don't you just love it when you can restore something to it's original glory. She sure is lovely. Now use her.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. It was a lot of work but I am really proud of how it turned out. I can see where a person could get addicted to restoring things because it was very rewarding. I doubt if either of my Janome machines will last 100 years!!!!
