i am doing a quilt top for a swap I'm in on a yahoo group and here's what i've done so far... what do you think please be gentle this is my very first one.

Looks good so far. Very scrappy!

It's called a bag lady swap and you take a ziploc freezer bag and fill it full of fabric and swap bags with a partner and then you make a top and send it back.

Looks like you are doing great. I make lap robes of 5 inch squares almost daily. They are donated to veterans. I really identify with you.

I also make other types pieced quilts.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Just jump in and go for it. With each project you will see your skills improve.

I think it looks great. I'm going to say something else, because no one told me when I was learning, and I wish they had- I note that your bottom row looks like it is a little wavy, though it could just be the photo. But if no one has shared this very simple tip, it may be helpful. When you sew the rows together, it's so much easier to line up when the seams are pressed to opposite sides. In other words, if one row is pressed to the right and the other is pressed to the left, when you put them together to sew them, the seams nestle together instead of lumping up and it's way easier to line them up and eeeeassse the ones that are slightly larger or smaller. If this is old news, please forgive me, but I found that no one had told me that because it was so basic, everyone thought I knew it!

It is probably common sense that I am lacking, but once I learned this- it made my quilting way better and way less stressful. You are off to a great start! Scappy rules for me.

Here it is finished .It looks a little wonky its laying over our comforter and the beds not made very well. anyway here it is finished.

Another hint I learned (the hard way) was to alternate the direction you sew your strip on. If one strip is sewn top to bottom, the next one should be sewn bottom to top. This also helps keep the strips very even. Your top is looking good! Can't wait to see the finished product!
