Andrea, this is just LOVELY! I was at Road to California in January and altho I'm a long arm machine quilter, I was disappointed not to see much hand quilting. Keep up the good work! (maybe you should enter it in some shows!?)

Beautiful job and beautiful quilting.

Stunning work as usual from you! I've always wanted to do a whole cloth quilt. Maybe one of these days.

Yes - it was exhibited at the World Quilt Show in 2011 (and won the Best of Country Award for Germany) and at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK. I plan to enter it again this year, probably at the Scottish Quilt Championships in Edinburgh.

A marvelous work of art-just stunning. A wholecloth quilt is on my bucket list-but I doubt that mine will be hand quilted. A very inspiring piece!

Scrappy Grace 04-10-2013 04:45 AM

When I could do hand quilting I always wanted to do something like this but didn't have the time. If that was in my house I would guard it like everything. NO ONE would touch it. Can't believe all the work and the joy you have for finishing it. thanks so much for sharing

Absolutely stunning workmanship! What brand of fabric and thread did you use? I am having a difficult time finding even thread count fabrics for handquilting.

For the design of the quilt I was inspired by a quilt made around 1932 in Wales.

You talked about making that in 4 months! I cannot imagine! Did your hands hurt when you went to bed at night?

nature lover 04-10-2013 08:22 AM

Absolutely stunning!! I love wholecloth quilts but have never ever tempted one. Your handquilting is unbelievable.

drew newlun 04-10-2013 08:24 AM

I used P&B Color Spectrum solids and a P&B printed fabric in a matching color. It has a thread count of 75/75 and is wonderful to hand quilt. Most fabrics for quilts has around 60/60. As far as I know P&B changed the quality of their fabrics now - at least the fabrics we can purchase here in Germany.
The quilting thread I used was YLI.

No, fortunately not. I think my hands are made for hand quilting and the muscles are very well exercised. I quilt 6-8 hours per day.

IBQUILTIN 04-10-2013 09:35 AM

Wonderful quilt. The time and patience put in sure paid off.
