I love estate sales for this reason too. You can find outstanding items for quilting for little money. Non-quilters just want to get rid of it, they don't know how much it means to us quilters.

I'm so happy for you and for the Mums things.... so many times family's don't know what to do with Mums things that they throw them away. My Father in law put full sets of "Blue Willow" china out at the trash... because he didn't know what it was.

Anyway... Over the last few months AND with some help from a couple of wonderful fabric angels on here, I have been gradually building a new stash, from re-cycled clothing from charity shops and car boots etc. SO I progressed to ebay, and was managing to find bits of fabrics for reasonable prices (Only one shop near me, not much stock and PRICEY!)... Well a couple of days ago, I spots some lovely fabrics being listed at good prices and managed to win a few pieces, on contacting the seller she said she would reduce the P & P accordingly. Next thing I get another email back, saying she couldn't figure out what to do!! No problem I said, if you have more fabric, just send me more! (Are ya'll still with me...LOL) Next email says, she has lots of fabric to sell as her dear Mum had passed away and they kept finding fabric stashed all over the place ...yep we all know about that tee hee!! Well we hit it off and before know it I am sitting her Dad's lovely apartment drinking tea with them like we had known each other forever..! Well below is what I came home with: Approximately 90 yards of fabric! Lots of notions, including 4 cutting mats, rotary cutter and new blade, Marti Mitchell Interlocking Hex template, plus her Set G hexagon template set and book, LOTs of square templates, flexi rulers oh the list goes on!! I am sure that her dear Mum looking down from heaven, will be so pleased her beloved fabrics and notions have come to an avid quilter    |
OH Happy Day!!!!

What a sweet story. I'm so happy for you!!! I'm sure it was comforting to the lady that her fabrics and sewing supplies found such a good home. I once came upon a garage sale where a lady was selling some of her mother's sewing items (her mother had died). I bought a basket of her items, and I held each one so tenderly, realizing how much these things must have meant to their original owner. Have fun with all that fabric, and show us pictures of your quilts and projects soon!

Wow, am green with envy, considering the past month i've been on ebay looking for fabric and missed that one, but considering i'm in Margate, Kent, and your OOP NORTH, i wouldn't have been able to pick it up, Enjoy every last scrap of it, it was meant to be, and you made a new friend, some things are just meant to be,

How wonderful! Just before I read your post, a friend called and told me she has yards and yards of quilt material, thread, patterns, etc. She is a nurse and had sat with a lady for a time before she passed away. The womans's daughter called my friend and asked if she knew anyone who would use it. Can hardly wait to go into town to see exactly what she has for me.
