I just finished piecing the duck fabric in a disappearing 9 patch using bright yellow and it turned out great.

there are so any possibilties with fabrics and sometimes you have to think outside the box. and it depend on what the person making it likes. Good luck.
|
I had some duck fabric very similar to this, cut it into squares and then used an attic window setting for a baby quilt.
|
I think using the duck fabric in large blocks with 4 or 9 patch blocks between would be nice and quick. The other fabric would be nice for a backing but be careful as it may stretch if you are quilting it. It may be best to tie a quilt with this fleece fabric. They are both cute fabrics.

Here is what I did with my ducky fabric...
The back is done with cuddle fabric |
I had the ducky fabric and the others that coordinated with it and in the girl print too. I used that pattern for the back of the quilt. It turned out really cute.
|
I would find some fabric that matches and make 4 patches. and use the other fabric for backing.

MistyMarie- I love your quilt - that is the cutest pattern! Good job. Does the pattern have a name or did you make it up
|
The ducks are too cute. Something that has a larger block to put the ducks in so they don't get too cut up????????
|
I have some of the duck fabric and I used it on the back of a baby quilt which has embroidered duck blocks on the front.

ok I can not contain my tears as the ducky's remind me of my dad. The last 2 years before he passed away, all he ever asked for was a rubber ducky. I know this sounds silly but when ever he was sad he would sing the rubber ducky song and we all would laugh until we couldn't laugh no more. Since I had to move him into my house to be able to care for him, I turn his bathroom into a rubber ducky haven. I would have loved to have some of your fabric to make him a quilt for his bed. Oh what memories you have brought to me.
Thanks! What would I do? Well I'd make a memory quilt of my dad with that ducky fabric. |

I only have a yard of the duck fabric. To get more I'd have to travel 120 miles one way and gas is just too expensive for that. :( Thanks for all the suggestions. There's quite a few I like. I don't want to use the two of them together............call me dumb but I just don't care for one side being bears and the other side being ducks. |
I would fussy cut the ducks. If you want to see how they would look, take a small picture frame, or Matt board cut out. Lay over different ducks just to see how many different ducks are actually in that fabric. they will have a whole new look, just looking at one or two ducks at a time. I think you will like it.

wow love it, great job!!!!!

I agree with you. Just curious...have you thought about or ever done a pieced back? If you use a small amount on the front (say an applique duck center and 9-patches in the corners of the borders) and do a pieced back you could have them on front and back. Looks like mine might have a lighter background than yours. PM me if interested. |
Nice fabric! The one on the right........blue, yellow and green would but not the pink one. There is no pink in my duck fabric. I'll try to look that up on line. Doubt I can get any right now though (financial woes) but thanks for showing me. I appreciate it.

The first one looks and feels like fleece but the back side is a weave of some kind, so it needs to be covered. The second one (Ducks) I think is just too cute to cut up or am I wrong about that? I'm still so new to quilting, thought maybe you all could guide me a bit. TIA the colors didn't come out right but you get the idea. |

Another thought is to do something like the Quilt For Kids kits.... 4 patch between the duck blocks. Maybe your 4 patch could be coordinating colors. I love the duckies! The flannel definitely would work for a backing. |

Misty Marie, I love the quilt you made with the duck fabric!
|
I like all the quilts that have been shown in this post.
Right now I'm leaning toward the quilt for kids design, a square of the ducks with a four patch of yellow and the umbrella fabric in between. Thank for all the good ideas!! I think most of the ones shown are a bit more complicated than I can handle right now and not sure I'd have enough fabric. One of these days I might be able to call my self a "quilter". "Might" |
You will do well!
Let us see what you decide on, will you? |
Those are the cutest little ducks!
|
I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but I gather that your fuzzy fabric is actually bathrobe type fabric and designed to be lined, so you have that pretty well decided.
When you get fabric that is an all over like your little duckies, it is hard to figure out how big to cut your squares. I am not sure how big your biggest duck is, but a five inch square should work well - - you will get different little ducks in each square (or six inches) if you add the 4-patches in complimentary colors alternating between the squares, might I suggest 2.5" squares in your 4-patch, which would make the squares you cut = 4.5" If you need different measurements, I can help you do the figuring <wave> |
