The blocks are supposed to be 'traditional' to go along with this very beautiful, traditional material. I need some help in coming up with something that would do this quilt justice. I just love the material and I love what everyone has done with it so far. Now I can't think what to do next!

What beautiful fabric!

Philarena 04-11-2010 11:15 AM

Thank you! I'm working on the last row of a Round Robin and the lady has asked for traditional blocks to go along with her old fashioned, traditional material which is soooooo beautiful, and I can't think what to do. Everyone else has already done what I would have done and we're not supposed to repeat what others have done. So I posted these, hoping someone could help me come up with an idea.

Looks like you have quite a few pinwheels type squares and only one star. So I think I would go for a star block. Did you try quilterscache.com? They have some great free patterns.

Maggiesmom 04-11-2010 11:26 AM

One block I like a lot is Card Trick Or a Monkey Wrench.

Philarena 04-11-2010 11:28 AM

Thanks, Mamabird, that's a good idea. What do you think about alternating that with one of the nine patch variations - maybe set on point with HST's around the edge?

Philarena 04-11-2010 11:30 AM

That sounds interesting - tell me how to make those.

mamabird3 04-11-2010 11:33 AM

This one has both star and pinwheel http://www.quilterscache.com/M/Marth...StarBlock.html

I think whatever you decide will be great. Such beautiful fabrics.

I agree, I love Card Trick, they are both on www.quilterscache.com

I think it wants to have some applique.

Tippy 04-11-2010 11:56 AM

What about a honeybee block.. you'd get a 9 patch and a bit of applique also. I think it would be great with these..

I love these fabrics. They are so 'the mouse'...ahhh!
Can't wait to see what you do with them. It will be lovely, I know. :-D

How about a basket. That is a traditional block, and there are so many to choose from. Then she can put all her stars in a 'basket'. Just an idea, but there are a ton of different blocks out there. I have one that I love for traditional and it is the Turnstile. It would lend itself to the fabric with a variety of color. Joanie

Churn Dash ?

RedGarnet222 04-11-2010 03:22 PM

Is there a setting for the blocks already? It would confuse me with them all in a heap like that too. Maybe put them out so you can see where the quilt is going and then take a picture. That would help me anyway to go from there.

Philarena 04-11-2010 04:07 PM

They are just in rows right now. Each row is supposed to be 37 1/2" long. I laid them out on my ironing board and took about 3 pics of each row so you could see the different color combos tha other people used. I'm not supposed to join the rows - just make one more row of something different. If you look at the pictures, you should see six blocks that look like the same pattern. That will be one row. There are five rows, but I guess I didn't get all the colors of every row! Then the last three pics are just fabric to let you see what I've got left to work with.

I vote Martha Washington star block too! That would go really well. Before I got to the end of the pictures I was thinking of the churn dash but i like Martha Washington so much better!!!

I love your colors and the print. My kind of fabrics.

All the blocks are so pretty I can't choose.

Sewnique 04-12-2010 06:13 AM

I am with Mamabird, pinwheel in a star! Oops, Martha Washington, that is!

I have no idea, never been in a round robin. These blocks are so beautiful. Let us know what you decide.

KGoodhand 04-12-2010 07:24 AM

What about the log cabin block?!?!
That would look very pretty with those fabrics!

eiltcoq 04-12-2010 05:46 PM

Quiltercache is a good resource for blocks. I love the fabrics.
Do you know the brand and collection of fabrics? It looks like some Northcott that I purchased for 'Quest For the Cure'.

Wow! Now I have sew many ideas that it will be hard to decide which one to choose! I'll take a picture and post it as soon as I'm finished. Thank you everyone for your wonderful suggestions!
