I made this trying needle turn applique and it was in Fons and Porter magazine ( mine has several changes due to mistakes I made) so I made a flower out of the middle to hide the points being off. The pattern in the book was bigger and I stopped here so my daughter could put it on her kitchen table she has red and black. Does it look to bad. Alot of the pieces did not turn out in the correct place. Do you think it looks to messed up to quilt as a table topper? What would you do to finish it? What about squares of the colors on the front to make the back?

ohh that is really pretty I see no mistakes.....I love the idea of a Table top....

I see red for the back and black binding....:-)

I love the top!! It is beautiful! Any mistakes you see are design choices you made! not mistakes!!! It is great!!

I agree with the red for the back and black binding. That would look fantastic!

Thanks I will take the compliments. My husband says I am to hard on myself with my cross stitch all the time I guess I am going to be the same way with the quilting. Some of the work by all of you is amazing so I guess I am just not to confident in my stuff since I have so far to go before I am as good as some of yall. I have enjoyed what I have tried so far and I guess that is what is important. The Enjoyment.

Could you please point out the mistakes? I cannot seem to find them.
I think it's REALLY pretty!

Ninnie 04-21-2009 08:54 PM

pocoellie 04-22-2009 04:34 AM

What mistakes? Looks great, you did an awesome job!

sandpat 04-22-2009 04:45 AM

Those things you are calling mistakes are really just "design challenges" and it looks like you've met all the challenges so far! I think it looks just great period..let alone for a table topper. Proceed forward...and show us your next progress!

I have never quilted a project so I am scared (really do not know where to start so I have to read and search google for directions and of course help and suggestions and ENCOURAGEMENT from Yall) Thanks again. I also put some pics on main forum not sure if that was correct so I will put them here if that is correct sorry if it was not the right way to post.

tslowery 04-22-2009 05:46 AM

We better wait and see what kind of mess I make trying to quilt this since it will be my very FIRST attempt at that....

Alaskan lady 04-22-2009 05:51 AM

You'll do just fine :D

its beautiful and i agree there aren't any mistakes in quilting - just throw all those silly quilting rules out the window.

for a table topper i love a scalloped border and you could cut the border fabrics in shapes similar to the quilt pattern - basically making it a scrappy scalloped border.

azam 04-23-2009 09:27 PM

Looks beautiful! There are no such things as mistakes, I would say that it's your interpretation of the design. Audition fabric for the back and make sure that you won't be able to see it through the white on the front. Red would be beautiful if it doesn't show through. Great job!

When I started quilting I took a beginning class and my instructor (who I just adored!) said there are never any mistakes only design opportunities. I have always remembered that. I don't see any mistakes in your table topper. I love it! I would border and or bind in black. It's great!

You did a great job with needle turn applique--that is a hard technique to master.

Nope no mistakes looks perfect to me too.

adrianlee 04-25-2009 04:57 AM

Hi! I don't see where the mistakes are. I think your top is beautiful. You took the pattern, put a new spin on it and made it yours.

sewnsewer2 04-25-2009 07:31 AM

I think it is BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the flower, it completes it!!!
