Ok, so I got a little side tracked. I had just asked you all on friday about border widths on a quilt that had been waiting for 2 years to be finished. So while I waited for inspiration and suggestions from ya'll I started a lap size charity quilt, got the blocks all done and then last night as I went to bed I thought about making a quilt for a friend, well she is the wife of our head pastor at the church my DH is working at, anyway she was very ill and spent a week in the hospital and had surgery and is now home recovering. I got a call about 9 last night about providing a meal for them for next saturday and I started thinking about maybe bringing her a quilt. So, I did not sleep well, got up this morning pulled fabrics from my stash, went to church and came home and started this quilt. It is a warm wished and I just got the top together. I am trying to decide which border fabrics I want to use. I am going to use the light print for a wide border and the purple for the binding but am trying to decide if I should add a narrow border and which one to use. I am leaning toward the very light green. I will make it a 1 to 1.5 in finished size and the wider border will be 3.5 in finished.

next choice.

Would it look better to just use the one border of the print? I have other purple and greens that I could pull out of my stash. Maybe even a light purple? Will the green make the quilt too green?

My hope is to get the borders on by Tuesday and then Wednesday night after DH get off work (around 8:30) I'll have him help me sandwich this one and my I spy alaska, and maybe the charity quilt. We like to sandwich in 3's.
Maybe Thursday afternoon, (after my MRI with contrast on my right shoulder) if I feel up to it I can start quilting and hopefully finish Saturday afternoon before we deliver dinner. Wish me luck!!!!
(Oh by the way, I work Mon - Wed and have 15 people for dinner Tomorrow after work)

I like it. Love the old fashioned look. Nice quiet colors.

I like the green borders best, but can't decide between the light or the dark.
Lovely! I have fabric for one of these too, but haven't started yet. I envy you your energy level to get so much done!!!!!

BlueChicken 08-16-2009 11:09 PM

I like the dark green, I think there's not enough contrast to make the light one stand out. The dark green looks stunning, it edges the pattern really nicely, and the purple on the outside binding.

You've done an awesome job, and so quickly! :-)

cutebuns 08-16-2009 11:18 PM

If it was me, I would pick either the dark green or the purple for both borders, I think the light green is just to light, or I would even consider putting the purple in the inside and the dark green on the outside.

Great job on the quilt.

CajunQuilter2 08-17-2009 12:34 AM

Personally I like choice # 3 the best with the purple, but then I love purple. My second choice would be choice #2 with the dark green border. Lite green one is way to lite. Good luck deciding, be sure to let us see the final piece.

katier825 08-17-2009 01:04 AM

Ditto BlueChicken's answer! It will look lovely I'm sure!

Quilt4u 08-17-2009 01:21 AM

I love the Quilt and I Think the dark green. would be nice.

Ninnie 08-17-2009 02:25 AM

Very pretty! Green for me!

minstrel 08-17-2009 03:04 AM

I like the dark green as well. Beautiful colors in this quilt! So peaceful looking.

STAR 08-17-2009 03:54 AM

Well first let me say that it is very thoughtful of you to do this in a very short amount of time
Next I will say that I like the contrast of the dark green border better than the light. I love purple but I think the green really makes the border pop.
The quilt is beautiful!!

azdesertrat 08-17-2009 03:58 AM

i like the dark green also, makes it stand out, very pretty by the way

reneebobby 08-17-2009 04:31 AM

I liked the dark green.

tslowery 08-17-2009 05:55 AM

I like the dark green also. Beautiful quilt thanks for sharing.

Ducky 08-17-2009 06:14 AM

I usually would say the purple, but perhaps the darker green would pull out the colors better. Lovely, lovely quilt. Very thoughtful of you, too. Quilters are the best!

wvdek 08-17-2009 06:38 AM

Dark green for me. Very nice quilt, calming, and relaxing. It will help the healing process.

catjo 08-17-2009 06:41 AM

I like the dark green. It will make the rest of the colors pop out in the quilt for you. Lovely quilt!

Harmony 08-17-2009 06:47 AM

Isn't it amazing how the idea for a quilt can kind of hijack our brains until we do something about it????

I like the dark green border. She's going to love this quilt!

n2scraplvr 08-17-2009 07:16 AM

Dark green inner and outer borders will really make this quilt pop. The border needs to echo your most predominant color which is dark green. Love the quilt and fabrics! Great job!

SharonC 08-17-2009 07:26 AM

What a busy bee you are :). This quilt is going together quite quickly and you are doing a wonderful job. I like the dark green (seems to be my new fav color :))...then the purple. The light green is pretty, but seems to fade into the quilt instead of popping like it ought.
Good luck on your busy, busy week.
Love the quilt :)

Jim's Gem 08-17-2009 07:37 AM

Thank you all for your reply's I really appreciate it. I also really appreciate the fact that one of you pointed out that there is a stripe block going the wrong way. I probably would have caught it before the border went on but..... Now I can fix it before it's really complicated to fix. There were 5 of us looking at it last night but none of us caught it. That's how tired I was. Didn't sleep well last night either. Won't be able to work on it today but tomorrow evening I will rip out that block and fix it and put on the borders. Looks like the consenses is dark green so far!!!!

nellie 08-17-2009 01:13 PM

yep green for my vote

tuesy 08-17-2009 02:05 PM

I like the dark green border... tends to make it all pop!!!

littlehud 08-17-2009 05:13 PM

I like the dark green best. Those are beautiful fabrics. The whole quilt is wonderful. Great job.

kd124 08-17-2009 10:43 PM

I like the one with the dark green the best. The green frames the main part very well.

JudeWill 08-19-2009 07:43 PM

You're amazing! I don't know how you get so much done and you are so fast! It is beautiful! Personally, I would go with the dark green for both. I think it would make everything stand out and at the same time tie everything together. It will be beautiful which ever way you do it!

SulaBug 08-19-2009 11:09 PM

I have to vote for the dark green, too!! :D
It is such a lovely quilt. I just love the colors
you have put together, along with the pattern.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Kara 08-20-2009 03:21 AM

Like the ladies here, I agree with the dark green (choice #1), but I would use the dark green as the binding, too.

So, dark green, print, dark green.

Very thoughtful of you to make this. It's beautiful, seeming antique. The colors - beautiful.

Tabby1957 08-20-2009 03:29 AM

Its a lovely quilt and a very kind gesture. Personally I would go with the dark green. I would love to see a picture of the final quilt.

laparshall 08-20-2009 06:09 AM

Beautiful quilt, very thoughtful. Love the colors I really like the purple, its my favorite color, but the dark green adds more constrast.

nativetexan 08-20-2009 08:23 AM

i'm partial to the darkest inner border myself. black or what ever it is. looks great.

paintedquilt 08-20-2009 08:51 AM

I like choice #2 the best. Beautiful quilt

lass 08-20-2009 09:39 AM

I like the green small inner border with the 3.5 outer border and the purple for the binding. Great choices.

Kyiav10 08-20-2009 09:59 AM

I like the first picture, Choice #2.

Grandma Cindy 08-20-2009 10:26 AM

I love the dark green small border, then the floral, with purple binding...

I second the motion on this one. But, the purple used in place of the dark green would also be nice.

Marguerite 08-23-2009 07:18 AM

I like the small border and binding in purple. The gree doesn't work for me and I think the black is too harsh. The big extra borders is too much for my taste. Good luck with all
