Okay, let's have some fun. My DDIL gave me some things today that were her mother's once upon a time. I was so excited to get this because it says Singer Sewing Machine Co. on it. As you may or may not know, I have quite a collection of machines and notions. Send my your ideas, and tomorrow when I have time I am going to try this out and post what it is. I have never seen one before, so this should be interesting. Sorry the close up is so blurry but my camera is non focusing any more.

miss_ticky2 10-16-2010 01:27 PM

no idea..but it almost looks lethal..lol

virtualbernie 10-16-2010 01:37 PM

looks like some kind of seam/hem gauge to me.

loopywren 10-16-2010 01:37 PM

Is it a needle threader? for the machine needle

wolfkitty 10-16-2010 01:42 PM

I will guess that it is a hem gauge, for measuring hems.

craftybear 10-16-2010 01:51 PM

I would say it is a seam guage of some sort, humm, thanks this is always fun to look at cool antique objects to see what it is

quiltsillysandi 10-16-2010 01:51 PM

Goodness, could be anything, but looks like it could be some kind of measuring device....

Charlee 10-16-2010 01:52 PM

It's a faggoter...

bjnicholson 10-16-2010 01:52 PM

I say a hem measurer too.

janRN 10-16-2010 01:56 PM

I think it turns drawstrings or narrow things right side out.

emt2004 10-16-2010 01:56 PM

ummmmmmm looks like a gauge to me.........Michele

bejay28 10-16-2010 02:09 PM

It is a Singercraft guide. I have several & they are very fun to use. You can use it to add embellishments or even make rugs. I added fringe to a tote I made for my gf using it. Not sure if you can open the link.

Just checked out your pics; loved them. How long did it take you to make that fringe? They evidently have (had) different sizes. I too have several machines. I have a White Treadle and 2 electric Singers, and a hand-crank one.

LOL.
Kitsie, there is such a thing. I've never seen one in person, but they are very collectible & sell for a small fortune on eBay.

Sewingyankee 10-16-2010 03:00 PM

a fringe or pom pom maker?

clem55 10-16-2010 03:01 PM

I know mom had one!! Just can't remember if it was for hemming or not, but I don't think so because I never saw her use it.

I don't remember, but it didn't take long. It was a couple of years ago. I played with it quite a bit when I got it, but only ever used it the one time on my gf's tote. You make me want to get it out again & play. I think your right that they have different sizes, seems I've seen larger versions.

I always pack up one of my handcranks when I go camping.

I will just watch for the post tomorrow, my brain is tired!

I already posted it above. Someone already guessed what it is. It is a fringe maker. They also used them to make rugs.

A faggoter is a tool used to make faggoting; or two pieces of fabric with open stitching in between. We use zig zag machines now to do it.

Kitsapquilter 10-16-2010 09:04 PM

My guess is some sort of seam guage. Waiting to hear the answer!!!

smitty 10-16-2010 09:08 PM

Hi, It is a Singercraft attachment for making rugs, etc on your sewing machine. I found 4 of them one summer at garage sales & have not seen a one since. I have some of the original graphis & they are wonderful. there are several different ones made--would love to have a collection of the various ones.

That is a neat tool! It amazes me that we think we are so "high tech" these days! Not so IMO, the "olden days" of ingenuity have it all over the fancy gadgets of today!

luvTooQuilt 10-16-2010 09:57 PM

I'm guessing an attachment for making button holes..

finch 10-17-2010 03:54 AM

That thing is awesome!!! I love it!!!

ranger 10-17-2010 04:07 AM

That is really cool!

jbj137 10-17-2010 08:42 AM

No idea. J J

kristen0112 10-17-2010 08:43 AM

No! Go to the 2nd page; the answer and pics are there. I wish I could have the whole set. I may actually use it sometime. Also check out my other thread, other notions from the 50's. My DDIL found this stuff in her mother's attic.
