I was looking for a ruler I think and I came across this box with all sorts of quilting things, bobbins, thread, patterns, rulers, and these things. I have no idea what they are, can someone help me?

The top ones, the almost circles are for free motion quilting

The first one is some kind of machine quilting hoop, the second looks like a rotary cutter blade sharpener. If not someone else will correct me.:)

The first two are fabric movers - I guess you would call them that. You place them on top of your fabric and use them to help guide your fabric under the needle when you are machine quilting.

The 'pink thing' is a cutting mat restorer. You go over your cutting mat to smooth out the cuts and clean away the threads that are always left.

I don't know about the turquoise things. Maybe a rotary cutter sharpener? HTH

I agree! I have almost square ones that do the same thing. The other items...sorry, no clue.

The green thing is to sharpen the rotary blades.

Sharpener Instructions:
1.Unscrew handles and place blade on screw of bottom handle. Screw top and bottom handles together. 2.Hold sharpening disk in one hand, position blade directly onto abrasive disk and twist back and forth a few times. Use coarse side (beige) of sharpening disk to smooth damaged blade edges. Use fine side (gray) to sharpen dull blade to a razor sharp finish. 3.Sharpen both sides of blade equally. Apply a very small drop of fine oil to blade every 10 to 20 times to enhance sharpening process.

Pink thing is for smoothing your cutting mat. Just rub it over the surface.

Even though it looks like they nest, you use one or the other, not both together. When you free motion, you need to move the fabric, so you need to 'get a grip'. You just lay the circle on top of your fabric sandwich and hold the little handle thingies. There's gripper rubber on the bottom to grab the fabric sandwich, so you can move the fabric around. I have one, but like gloves better.

The fabric holders in the top picture are not used together. You use whichever one fits the space you are quilting in. Just place it on your quilt sandwich and hold it with your hands (personally I found it just as easy to use my hands) but because there is sponge on those holders they are meant to help grip the fabric. I think it's Sharon Schamber's who has a similar item & has a video on it.

My experience is that neither the mat smoother nor the blade sharpener is very effective.

I have the hoops for FMQ and they work better (for me) with smaller quilts than larger, but I use them to keep my hands from cramping when doing FMQ.

I agree with gollytwo -- the other two are not that effective IMHO.

Yes the top ones are to help you move fabric if you have difficulty. But fluffing your fabric up and stuffing it is so much easier.

The second things are rotary blade sharpeners.

The pink thing is for cleaning you cutting mat with after each use. I have a blue one just like it that I bought from the LQS. The two white things are for free motion quilting. Eleanor Burns calls those her steering wheel. I have a gray one, but don't use it much at all. The other little gidgit is a rotary cutter blade sharpener. You take apart the two pieces with the handles on them and then place the blade on then and screw it together and then you put it in the corcular thing and then you twist it back and forth and then turn it around that polish the blade on the other side of the round thingy. The instructions for my sharpener are a little different than the dritz brand. Hold abrasive disk in one hand. Place handle and blade assembly onto abrasive disk. Apply force and twist handle in one direction 10-20 times,depending on condition of blade. Turn handle assembly over, and sharpen reverse side of blade. Sharpen both sides equally. During the sharpening process, keep the sharpening disk moderately wet. After sharpening clean sharpener with a damp cloth.

My sharpener works great, haven't bought a blade in at least a year.
