Whenever i feel stressed and don't want to sit behind the sewing machine but still want to feel accomplishing something i do hand work...it is so relaxing (i call it therapy sessions). This time i decided to start this for myself...yes that's right it will be my quilt. I have been quilting for 1 1/2 year and i still don't have one. How sad is that :-(
Hopefully 2-3 weeks from now i will have one to cuddle with.

This is the pattern i am making but i will modify a bit

Great blocks. I love the combo of "old" and "new" in this quilt. It's going to look great finished, and I'm sure you're going to enjoy it.

Very nice work!!! I love GFG! And that is a neat way of using it! Thanks for sharing your pictures!

bjeriann 08-31-2011 07:55 PM

That is the one I work on in the car, or at the hospital. Someday I'll get it done. My health has improved so no long hospital stays. So it may take awhile. Can wait to see yours done.

Dianemarie 08-31-2011 08:12 PM

I too have a modified GFG that I will be making for my self. Yours is very pretty .

Enjoy~

Are the hexs hard ?

Vanuatu Jill 08-31-2011 09:09 PM

It is going to look beautiful! I LOVE hand-piecing (hand ANYTHING) and started my GFG on my last trip to Vanuatu. In 2 months there, I made nearly 30 flowers-I have no idea how many I need - I just kept making them! I have cut hex's for about another 20! Then to make the white hex's for the background! I go back overseas next month so I will probably finish the flowers and make a good start on the white hex's. I only work on that overseas since it is so portable. I hope someday to get them sewn together-I bet I'll have enough for 2 queen quilts! I don't really have a layout pattern, but I guess I'll figure that out when I think I have enough-I am just enjoying the hand-work so much! I love the added applique on your pattern! Will love to see it finished and what you have done with it!!

deanneellen 08-31-2011 09:11 PM

Lovely. Can't wait to see it finished!

Charming 08-31-2011 10:20 PM

What do you mean by hard? are you asking about the shape? if so i used freezer paper and that's why i am doing one block at a time so i can reuse the same papers instead of cutting more (that's a lot of waste ) and God knows when am i ever going to do one more like this

OMG that is a lot of hexies...lol you should make different layouts. I was searching online of different ones then i came across a magazine that i have that has the one i decided to use, but there is a lot more. Good luck and yes it is very good idea to take overseas instead of carrying a machine and all:)

That is a beautiful quilt. Is it in a magazine or a book. I am working on a hexagon quilt for myself as well. I am doing it in bright colours and black background. Enjoy the journey

Your blocks are beautiful! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

OraLee 09-10-2011 04:54 PM

I have a whole bunch of those flowers that were given to me but the are made out of polester (sp) plus 2 boxes of the same material. Don't know what to do with them because I don't like the material. Flowers are all put together by hand also.

SWEETPEACHES 09-10-2011 04:55 PM

Very nice!
