after working on my black and white blocks all day yesterday, I wanted to be a little more creative today, so dug out a kit I bought a year or so ago. I pretty much bought it just for the handle, their fabrics were very old fashioned and not my cup of tea. So I substituted my own choices and made this.....

It's not sitting particularly well on the desk, but you get the idea!

Here's a better photo.... hubby suggested stuffing it because it wouldn't sit straight, so I used his socks! lol

That's really cute!!!

That is sooooo adorable! (And, your hubby is a smart man. My hubby also makes helpful suggestions when I'm working on a piece. He's supportive, like your hubby, and the suggestions are mostly really good ones I don't think of, myself).

BlueChicken 05-24-2009 02:44 AM

It's one of his better suggestions! LOL

I collect butterfly fabrics, I have quite a few, but this is the first time I've actually CUT into one! How bad is that! LOL

We went out last weekend and I was surprised I didn't have a nice wee bag to pop my car keys and phone in. Now I do! :-)

patricej 05-24-2009 02:49 AM

that is just toooooooo cute!
since it doesn't "sit well" on your desk, perhaps you'll mail it to me. i'll bet it sits just fine on my desk!

Izy 05-24-2009 04:15 AM

Wow!! Blue that is just delightful, it is sooo elegant, you would have to wear your poshest frock to do it justice, it's fit for a Queen!! :D

sandpat 05-24-2009 04:17 AM

Wow BC....I love it! Didn't realize it was that small, but it is a tiny thing and sooo cute! I would have bought it just for that handle too!

(Smacky kisses to your DH for being so smart!)

Tippy 05-24-2009 05:06 AM

Ok y'all have to just STOP it.. there's another project on the list!! :P

Knot Sew 05-24-2009 05:14 AM

Thats cute, my mom had one shaped like that, it had beads she loved it. :D

RedGarnet222 05-24-2009 07:11 AM

Oh!!! I just love your little evening purse. The hardware is beautiful, well worth buying the kit for.

Your hubby is a nice guy to help you with ideas. Mine doesn't do creative thinking, at all.

Kyiav10 05-24-2009 10:20 AM

I love it. The fabric you chose is great!

What a great bag! I love the fabric! That is my favorite kind of fabric for Kaleidoscopes! It would work up into a great Kaleidoscope project!

I use to make purses years ago. I love to see how others make them!

Shemjo 05-24-2009 10:37 AM

That is wee! Thank you for sharing, I love the hardware also. Nice to have a man around the house! Expecially one who is helpful and sharing!

pennyswings 05-24-2009 10:54 AM

love it and you were right to buy it just for the hardware it makes the purse. Really beautiful.

Great suggestion by your DH. Wow you really made me chuckle when you said you stuffed it with his sox  . But hey worked out great!

MadQuilter 05-24-2009 10:57 AM

Cute, cute, cute!

JoanneS 05-24-2009 11:00 AM

That is so cute! Too bad you've had it sitting around too long for us all to order the kit - but just in case it's still available --- details please

MadQuilter 05-24-2009 11:06 AM

Question: How much hand work is involved in such a tiny purse?

BlueChicken 05-24-2009 11:59 AM

There's no handwork! :-)

Well... apart from attaching the handle, and that's just backstitching through the holes in the metal frame. I used a forest green embroidery thread.

The kit is still available, but I bought it from a shop that I've since found out regularly rips off New Zealand Quilt Designers. They have been found guilty in court twice of taking people's designs and putting their own name on it, and there is a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting they're still doing it.

Bevanger 05-24-2009 12:39 PM

oooooooooooooo pretty

That's not nice....but I must say the purse is just gorgeous. It's so petite, and I love the fabrics you've chosen.

judee0624 05-24-2009 04:12 PM

So cute! Love the butterflies. Did the hardware come in the kit?

AkAngel 05-25-2009 06:32 AM

Blue Chicken,
I love your little bag. The butterfly, pansy material you used is the same fabric I used for the background in my BOM. If I ever learn to post pictures I put some on the board.

Just Darling....

jbsstrawberry 05-25-2009 06:52 PM

Ohhh ROCK ON Blue!! That is the cutest!!

pittsburgpam 05-25-2009 07:49 PM

that is just gorgeous, BC. I love the butterflies, it gives a whimsy that could otherwise be a formal and stuffy bag.

Great hardware too.... going to have to look for some for my daugher who loves purses.

Debbie1 05-26-2009 06:05 AM

Very cute!

kd124 05-26-2009 08:05 PM
