What was I thinking?

.My sister called me about a month ago and asked if I had a pattern for the box pouches I made for stocking stuffers last year. She is a figure skating coach and wanted to make some for her skaters for Christmas. Well I know my sister and it was inevitable that a week before Christmas I would get a panicked call asking for help. So doofus here offered to make them. Only then did I ask how many.......28!!! Spent a couple of weeks unsuccessfully looking for figure skating fabric as per her request. In the end she agreed that as long as it was something sparkly it would be ok. These are fun to make when you need a couple but this was a royal pain. Finally done and can move on to my own projects.

Cattitude... ok, i’ll say it even if you dont hear it elsewhere... thank you! Wow, you have gone over and above on this project! What a big heart you have - and you must love your sister very much! At times like this i tend to rethink my lifelong regret over never having a sister - lol! Not really, i would love one - there are some things ya just cant do with your brother 😊

Great efforts to save your sister from the last minute gift panic. Those are perfect for the skaters.

LAF2019 11-25-2019 08:08 PM

Nice work! She is a lucky sister!

BrendaK 11-25-2019 08:14 PM

Super. Do you mind telling us what pattern you used, please? These look great. You are qualified, as a super sister. BrendaK

Let me guess--she is the baby and you're the firstborn? You have done such a good job--I'd say borderline heroic. LOL I'm just curious why she didn't pick out the fabric herself?

nativetexan 11-25-2019 08:42 PM

Wow. what a sister you are. Good one. now tell her how much she owes you!!!

quiltingcandy 11-25-2019 08:50 PM

You are the wonderful sister and I nominate you for Sister of the Year! (I would have done it too, knowing what would happen if I didn't. My daughters have a tendency to ask how long would it take to make.... and it's usually because they are going to wait until the lat minute.)

tallchick 11-26-2019 02:29 AM

Oh my goodness, your the bestest sister ever and so very gracious and kind of you to do this for her. Her students will love them, so very pretty.

You get "sister of the year" award! Well done.

QuiltMom2 11-26-2019 05:04 AM

I understand totally, only I have no one but myself to blame! I actually volunteered to make some little stocking ornaments for my pastor to give away and I'm 37/50 done and I want to be working on other things.

She owes you a big favor! My late and dearly loved sister made me a stained glass panel ..a copy of a Tiffany window in my former home in NJ. I think it is the best gift I ever received and I look at it and miss her every day. Having a sister is such a gift and I miss her terribly. I was the oldest of 3..she was the baby.

God bless you!

bearisgray 11-26-2019 05:51 AM

They sure look pretty from the picture

juliasb 11-26-2019 06:11 AM

Wow! I hope your sister is eternally grateful for all your work. They are very pretty and nicely done. I would love this pattern. It is a great gift idea.

osewme 11-26-2019 06:16 AM

What a wonderful sister you are to have made those for the skaters. Did you make a couple of extras "just in case"? :) Geez, I can't imagine putting in 28 zippers!!! That would have been the painful part for me. Love the colors & I think they will be loved by all who get them. Super Sis to the rescue!!!

sewbizgirl 11-26-2019 06:26 AM

I don’t know the name, but I have seen the pattern for sale in a quilt shop. One of the ladies in my quilting group made them for all of us. I gave mine to my daughter and she uses it to store pacifiers in the diaper bag.

You are the best sister ever!! Beautiful projects and I am sure you sister appreciates what you did for her. You can claim the "Best Sister of the Year"! You did a great job.
Luvstoquilt-your stained glass panel is so gorgeous. Now every time you look at it you can have good thoughts and memories of your sister.

SewingSenior 11-26-2019 08:10 AM

Beautiful boxes and I think you may have given me an idea for NEXT Christmas (2020). I think to make them and put everyone's Christmas gift inside. That way they each get 2 gifts. I guess I better start today, lol.

Tartan 11-26-2019 08:43 AM

Now that is sisterly love! Great pouches but 28!

I used the Shabby Fabrics tutorial from YouTube. She gives dimensions and a nice detailed tutorial. Would love to post the link but it’s not working for me. They are very easy. I used my walking foot. One comment I will make is I wasn’t satisfied with the structure just using fusible batting. I tried Foam. Great for holding shape but I found I was getting pleating. Changed to using batting on the outside fabric and a heavy weight interfacing on the lining. Still not 100% satisfied as the lining is a bit crunchier than I would like. Maybe others here will have a better suggestion.

My sister is older by 18 months. I think it is part guilt.....As middle child I felt the need to assert myself somehow and I beat my sister up quite a bit! When we got older I would ‘borrow’ her clothes. And often ruin them. I was terrible. We get along great now!

My sister doesn’t sew much and didn’t really know where to start. I needed to find something in Canada or at one of the few places in the US with reasonable shipping rates to Canada. It just made sense for me to do the searching.

Tish05 11-26-2019 09:19 AM

Nicely done! They are very cute and I'm sure her skaters will love them.

busy fingers 11-26-2019 01:28 PM

What a great effort on your part. Lovely work.

Jingle 11-26-2019 05:13 PM

The are very pretty, I only make quilts, give away or donate.

Mariposa 11-26-2019 05:51 PM

Terrific bags! You get the greatest sister award for doing all of these!

Karamarie 11-27-2019 04:41 AM

Wow, you deserve a metal for those; although, the happiness these skaters will feel when receiving them will be worth it.

QuiltnNan 11-27-2019 12:29 PM

all I can say is Wow!

Maggie_Sue 11-27-2019 12:52 PM

Yup, best sister of the year award!!!

rjwilder 11-28-2019 05:17 AM

The pouches are beautiful, the girls will appreciate them. There are tons of patterns for them on the internet, once you make one it's easy to adjust the measurements to the size you want. I made a bunch for make-up brushes for my granddaughters and their friends for Christmas.

jmoore 11-28-2019 01:06 PM

Are you an over achiever? LOL If you have extras, you can add me to your Christmas list. LOL
