What is the name of this block?

I have only seen this block once before and now have a chance to quilt for a local charity. I would like to see what others have done or if others have suggestions.

Guess I need to figure out how to add the picture

ckcowl 01-23-2012 01:21 PM

to add a pic click on --- Go Advanced
then click on manage attachments
browse
choose picture- click upload
near bottom of page it will say---uploading picture please wait
when it is finished it will show up in a box-blue- close that window- then click submit and your message & picture will post

When I click on go advanced, not seeing anything about manage attachments. Just shows me additional options about my signature, parse links and subscription info.

You must allow for javascript to be able to access Advanced mode.

When I add pictures, I just scroll down after I finish the message part and you see a heading for "Manage Attachments" that is the one for adding pictures. Keep trying. Be sure to click on "upload" after you have identified the picture you want through browsing. Good luck.

string blocks, aren't they?

Nettie Phillips 01-23-2012 04:25 PM

I am not sure but think it is a string quilt. It is very pretty.

I looked on-line and that is exactly what this block is. Thank you. Now...just need to figure out what to stitch on this block.

It's a string quilt...and pretty, too.

That's what I was thinking as well!

It looks like you sew 7 diff strips of fabrics together then cut triangle out the strip sets . Make several different strips of 7 material then mix them up and sew them together to make a block . My guess . Hope it helps .

That would work. I usually am using scraps, so I sew my strips to a thin muslin backing. I usually start in the center and work out both ways so I'm sewing two strips at a time, then press, and add two more. I press my backing piece diagonally one way, so I have a "starting line" on the base piece. I sew my strips on diagonally.
Have fun experimenting. I don't think you can make a string block "wrong"! :o

How about a spiral? I've seen that on squares and it is really interesting.

string quilts are always beautiful, no matter what colors you use.

nativetexan 01-26-2012 06:23 PM

looks like it was done in the Tube method. strips sewn into tubes and cut. lots of tutorials on this out there. http://www.youtube.com/user/Missouri.../3/vOWSp0mTTqE

I have also heard of it being called a spiderweb block.
