I ran across a blog and love it! I was wondering what the name of this block is so I could search for a tutorial.

It is a log cabin block :D:D:D
Traditionally, they are constructed with lights on one side and darks on the other.
This one is more contemporary :D:D:D

ahhhhh.. I knew it looked familiar but I was also drawing a blank - thank you so much :) I just love more contemporary styles :)
