What is wrong in this quilting

On the bottom, it was the last border, the last motif to be marked. Thankfully before I did the semi circles of lines 1/8" apart, I noticed it wasn't centered. It took 3 1/2 hours to rip. I would tell you I learned a lot about ripping but I already had that knowledge down pat. Oh well, at least I didn't put a hold in it ripping. LOL Yes you are not the only one out there who has a few goofs. Hopefully by tomorrow night it will be requilted and look like it never happened.

Wow, that's a lot of work! Will be gorgeous!

Homespun 01-18-2014 06:55 AM

You are a better person than me, I would have left it as it was!

PaperPrincess 01-18-2014 07:03 AM

I hope this is the 'after your ripped' photo, because I sure can't see any mistakes!

Tartan 01-18-2014 07:08 AM

I thought it was beautiful the way it was however you are the person it must satisfy. That's a lot of careful ripping!

Caroline S 01-18-2014 07:10 AM

That is equal to what the Amish call a humility block. Most would not notice your mistake. Me included.

Tweety2911 01-18-2014 08:28 AM

Your feathers are beautiful Oh why does it have to take so long to unsew when it takes so little time to sew:o!!

Nammie to 7 01-18-2014 08:53 AM

Sigh -- when we see what we consider to be a mistake our eye always goes to that spot and we don't see anything else. You have done a nice job on your quilting.

Me, too! The only way I would've ripped out that beautiful work would've involved someone with a gun.

Sneed 01-18-2014 09:22 AM

You'll be glad you went through the ripping as it would forever be the one spot where your eye would travel. May still, but at least it will be right and you can smile rather than frown and wonder why you left it that way. It truly is beautiful!!

crafty pat 01-18-2014 09:29 AM

I feel for you. I hate to rip but that beauty is going to be worth it. Be sure to show us when it is finished.

QUILTNMO 01-18-2014 09:42 AM

The quilting is just beautiful. You have a great deal of perseverance.

I hate unstitching?

Retired Fire Chief 01-20-2014 04:06 AM

That is a ripping nightmare, but it's going to be remarkable when you are done.

you and me both!!
beautiful quilting but still can't see the "wrong" in the first.

misseva 01-20-2014 09:49 AM

If I'm reading correctly she said the problem was that the quilting wasn't centered and that was the problem.

Jean S 01-20-2014 10:13 AM

I don't see the problem and I am looking really hard!

bibi 01-20-2014 10:29 AM

This looks gorgeous to me!

stillclock 01-20-2014 10:35 AM

it's like "where's waldo" at the very hardest level.

That is really beautiful quilting!

I have done a lot of ripping, but I probably would not have ripped that. My wife used to have the habit of pointing out mistakes and errors to everyone looking at our quilts. I have finally convinced her to not say anything about the mistakes. Most people we show the quilts to don't know enough about quilting to see the mistake. When we look at quilts in quilt shops, etc., we see mistakes and we tell each other that most people don't see them, but we do because we know how it is supposed to be done. We have just finished a king sized quilt for our son that we got one block turned 90 degrees. By the time we caught it, it would have taken a lot of time to rip it out. We decided to let it go and said he probably wouldn't notice it since we're not going to tell him.
I had a teacher in a free motion class tell us that if you make a mistake, wait 24 hours before you decide to rip it out. I have found that is good advice.

Wow....can't wait to see it done!!!

M.I.Late 01-20-2014 06:13 PM

It's one thing to have to rip out piecing it's entirely another to have to rip out quilting. It is beautiful and worth the extra effort.

solstice3 01-21-2014 02:32 PM

3 cheers for perserverence! BEAUTIFUL

azwendyg 01-21-2014 02:38 PM

Sorry you had to spend so much time ripping, but you'll be glad in the end. Can't wait to see this piece completed!!!

P.S. I absolutely LOVE those 1/8 parallel lines "beneath" the feathers!

quiltingshorttimer 01-21-2014 07:55 PM

Wow! Wonderful quilting and amazing design. Know what you mean by seeing a "blip" that you can't live with and spending HOURS unsewing! Long arming is so fun--when you are sewing--but the unsewing is a challenge.
The saying in the long arm quilt I belong to is that you need to stand back 3' and if you still see it, THEN you unsew!
