I have been wanting a extension table for free motion quilting..Didn't have the money to pay $70 and $80 dollars for one..So I made one! Not the prettiest thing in the world but it works! I went to Lowes and got a piece of 18x24 plexiglass..cut it to fit machine..and took a wooden dowel cut legs for it and hot glued them on bottom.Rounded the corners and sanded the cut edges to make them smooth..I wish it was a little thicker, but all they had was 1/4 inch. You can also use it as a tracing box..Just put one of those battery push lights under it and trace away!! Oh well we will see going to finish up the quilt top this weekend and try it out!!
Total cost..$19.27!!! |
Love this. My hubby doesn't know it yet but he is making me one!

Wow,how did you cut it? I need to do this, I have been waiting for the sun to come out to use the window as a light box lol. I also need an extension table!

I have a jig saw..Make sure to get the right blade to cut plexi. Mine was a little rough! And wear glasses..it flies everywhere!!

Very well done. I have a big sheet of plexie glass in my garage we used to put on the table when we did boat show
Guess what it's going to be used for now. |

That is amazing--so well made!
An extension table like that came with my machine and I stopped using it. Two reasons: my arms would go numb being at such an angle--although sitting on a pillow helped; but the other issue was the quilt kept getting caught on the corners and it would interrupt the flow of the stitches--and I need all the help with flow I can get. So, this past week I quilted eight small projects without it and made out better. If you figure out how to keep the quilt from catching on the corners--please let me know!! |
Very impressive!

Are your corners rounded barnbum? Perhaps if not you could try to round yours.
