Well, I am not native speaker in English, but as far as I know broadcloth is an extra wide woven fabric. A wholecloth (quilt) is made out of complete fabric length, the top is not pieced or appliquéd. The quilting patterns create the design.

Andrea - do you wash your fabric prior to doing your hand quilting? Someone told me it was easier to hand quilt when the fabric had been washed because it takes the sizing out. Do you use a hoop or floor frame, and if so is the fabric fairly loose in the hoop or floor frame?

Hi Jan,
yes, I do wash my fabrics prior to hand quilting. I can see how much they bleed and they get softer because the finish get out - exactly what you have said.
I quilt in a 18" hoop on a floor stand and put the quilt quite loose in it. It' easier to move the needle up and down!
