All I could think was STUNNING and then I looed at comments and saw the word used multiple times. You are so talented and must be so patient. KUDOS and thanks for the beauty.

Beautiful, i've always wanted to make a whole cloth quilt, even bought some books on it, but afraid to start i don't think i have enough room. But someday i'll get the nerve.

Well, yes, almost. I have used one stencil (feathers in the border) and did some freehand quilting. The pattern arrangement is my own design.

I had never heard of nor seen whole cloth quilting before, I am amazed. What talent and patience you have. Do you use a purchased pattern or do you design these yourself? I'm blown away!!

It's not a purchased pattern, I designed the combination of patterns by myself by using one stencil, freehand quilting and of course some rulers for the grids etc. I love to use traditional british quilting patterns that I find on pictures of quilts in books. Normally you can't buy these patterns in ready-to-use stencils, you have to draw them by yourself and make stencils or templates out of it. For small patterns like little feathers or leaves I often use freehand quilting and freehand drawing. This is not so difficult like it looks like! Skills improve the longer you use it.

I am not a very patient person I must admit. But I am ambitious and it is always a big challenge for me to finish a quilt. I love to touch them, to look at the structures and I am very thankful and happy that I have the talent to do it.

Autumn Quilts 04-28-2010 04:46 AM

This is absolutely beautiful. I would love the pattern. Do you have the name of it?

YOUR HAND QUILTING IS BEAUTIFUL DO YOU USE A HOOP?

Joanieu 04-28-2010 07:48 AM

That is beautiful - I have a pattern that I ordered for wholecoth, but I have not gotten the material yet for it, especially since it is queen size. I hope one day to be half as good as you are. I love your work and you are a real inspiration to me.

Yes, I work at a 18" hoop on a stand, a Jasmine one. Because I always quilt in one direction - towards my body - I have to turn the quilt while working on it.

I think about 6 or 7 weeks working 6 to hours a day on it. At the moment I'm a fulltime handquilter...
