We recently took a boat tour to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge to see the Whoopers in their winter habitat. As some of you enjoy birds as I do, I thought you might like these pics. Our guide said it's rare to see them in flight.

Thanks! It's zero here this am, so our feeders are busy. I just counted 12 male cardinals + everybody else, including 5 turkeys. Great hobby, fun to watch and no vet bills!!!

Lucky you - even to get to see them. One of these days while down there I'll get lucky too.

They are beautiful birds. We get cranes here and they come back every year and have their babies.

Our guide told us that the same cranes come back to the same areas every year; they've named each family; each family has a "ranch" that only they can claim. They're such amazing birds. They're expecting a record number this year.

I love the cranes. For my birthday my husband and I spent the day in the Sacramento Valley with the Sandhill cranes. It is so hard to get a good picture of them with my camera but they look wonderful in the binoculars. Thanks for sharing this. I hope to make it to Aransas someday to see the whooping cranes for myself.
