Our beagle does that too, not much room left after Trixie settles in, but she does keep you wamr. (the beagle learned from the pug, who leaves much more room for our butts)

My cat is the same way, I wish I had room for another chair just for him. I always have to sit on him to get him out of my chair so I can sew!! LOL
