I love it!!!!

Donna 66 03-06-2013 08:18 AM

What a good idea. And let me just add that if you were one of these people that are so proud that they throw everything away that they haven't used in six months, you wouldn't have this treasure to enjoy :)

Thanks for sharing the story and the pictures.

QltrSue 03-06-2013 11:30 AM

Beautiful quilt! This is why I love quilting--making something that has meaning. Keep up the good work!

Smg1678 03-06-2013 03:10 PM

These type of quilts are my favorite....I have a quilt that my grandmother sewed by hand from all scrap clothing ..years later we had the quilt top made into a quilt...I think she would have been proud that we had it finished for her.....

debcavan 03-06-2013 03:11 PM

It is lovely on it's own and ever so more wonderful for it's meaning.

What a wonderful quilt! Thanks for sharing the quilt and your memories.

coffeegirl 03-07-2013 06:52 AM

That is awesome, but now you need to preserve those memories for the next generation. I know you have told the stories, but they will be forgotten. Why not write them down, and take photos of the quilt showing which fabric was grandma's dress...which was grandpa's uniform, etc.? Don't let those stories get lost.

vjohnson 03-07-2013 06:58 AM

Very Nice! What a great idea.

BettyGee 03-07-2013 06:59 AM

You have created a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing your amazing work. The memories in that quilt are worth more than words can say.

I love the idea of a memory quilt! Congratulations!

colleen1978 03-07-2013 07:07 AM

Beautiful! I hope you write a story to go with it so that the person who inherits this beauty knows about all the precious memories that go with it!

jbj137 03-07-2013 07:10 AM

I think it is Beautiful and
a very great idea full of memories.

Sharon M 03-07-2013 07:48 AM

Very pretty, I just love scrappy quilts they are my favorites. Smart girl thinking so far ahead and then accomplishing what you set out to do. Congratulations!

MothrNatr 03-07-2013 07:53 AM

Nice quilt! It would be nice to add another label (for posterity in the family) that identifies the special pieces that you remember and when your grandchildren are sharing with their children they can tell the story of the quilt. You could take a picture of the quilt, print on fabric - denote the fabric and fold and store under the label or in another quilt envelope.

Great inspiration!
Sylvia

Coffeegirl, my daughter has already asked me to make a "key" for this, so that she would know in the future when I am gone where all these came from. Thank you for reminding me that I need to do this! And thanks to everyone for their kind comments.

This is so neat. My first quilt was a scary made from left overs from clothes I made over the years. my kids /grand kids love to look at it ask names for what fabric was for what.. good job thanks for sharing.

psailer 03-07-2013 09:50 AM

it is beautiful and great idea... my parents are both still with me they are 84 and almost 86 i am very fortunate i will get some fabric from things that mean alot to them and make them a memory quilt.. such a great idea... of course i wasnt as smart as you and didnt save to make it really memorable... great idea once again

sjbart 03-07-2013 09:57 AM

I think anyone who has learned to love the process of quilting has an "ah ha" moment...mine came when I made a quilt of sailboats in memory of my father (who taught me to LOVE sailing) and donated it to Komen race for the cure quilt raffle. Dad died young of cancer and it seemed fitting that the money they made on it went to (breast) cancer research.
I love your quilt and its' story.

Wonderful idea and great job.

wpbmommy1 03-07-2013 10:11 AM

This is a beautiful quilt. You've inspired me to make one in memory of my dad. When he passed in 2011 I made sure to keep a bunch of his shirts and I just took them out the other day, wondering what I should do with them. This quilt will bring you years of joy. Congratulations!

starshine 03-07-2013 10:35 AM

Your quilt is wonderful. I like the idea of a memory quilt. And I really like the way you put it together! thanks too for the pattern. Hope you have a great series of Memory quilts-and hope I get to see them too.

Thank you for your wonderful quilt and for the idea. I have 2 boxes of fabric scraps from clothes Momma made for my sister and me and for herself. This quilt looks like a winner for them also.

Sarint 03-07-2013 01:15 PM
