wild walleye

Growing up, if we caught a significant fish (size depended on species), we got our picture on the fish wall in the family room. By the time we were all grown and gone, the wall was completely covered! One of those species was walleye -- my dad loved nothing more than spending the day out on Lake Erie fishing for walleye. So, this one's in his memory:

I love your walleye. It’s quite beautiful. I especially like your background quilting and the wonky border. My dad loved to catch the elusive walleye too, but in Lake Mille Lacs in Minnesota. Lovely tribute.

Wonderful Tribute to your Dad

I enjoyed seeing your lovely work of art! I like how colorful it is and the quilting designs are amazing!

Stunning! What a fabulous tribute to your dad and a wonderful way to share fond memories.

Oh...your father would have loved that! My husband isn't a fisherman at all, but certainly does love to eat walleye when we find it available at a restaurant.

You're a real artist. The best projects are out of love, yours for your dad and quilting, your dad fishing Lake Erie. Nicely done!

Superb job! Dad would definitely have you put that one on the wall.

Wow! Beautiful! I can appreciate your hard work. Definitely borrowing your border idea! And the spirals-over the top!
My dear father-in-law fished for trout with a red (rubber) worm. I made a stained glass panel for the beach house that we spent the summers enjoying. It would make a great applique pattern! In fact, most stained glass patterns lend themselves to being a quilting pattern. I do have matching glass/quilt projects!

Love art quilts and this is a winner.

That's an awesome quilt!

While we don't fish, DH does sometimes enjoy walleye if it is fresh on the menu. Lots of little bones, though.

cat-on-a-mac 01-27-2025 09:31 AM

little bones is a sign of a poorly filleted fish ... my dad had done so many in his life that there were almost never any bones. Unfortunately, even though I watched him many times, I didn't really learn his technique.

Beautiful design, choice of fabric, quilting - everything!

That's amazing! The fish is so pretty and the border sets it off perfectly.

That is awesome!

Fishing in my lake! Love the story and the quilt.

Beautiful PP walleye and lovely story. My DH is a fisherman also, though mostly trout. You did an amazing job with your colors, the execution and quilting. Definitely "wall worthy".

Your wild fish is fantastic. It reminded me of one my mother in law did with plastic canvas she was very good.

This fish is stunning! Your close up blows my mind. Beautiful quilt!

Wonderful work! For me, it was fishing with my Dad for perch and walleye at Drummon Island.

Ukinusa 02-27-2025 04:47 AM
