Who likes modern style quilts? Check this out:
I want to make it queen size, so I need 81 of these puppies. I'm not sure I have the power to stick to it for a whole week. I may have to alternate projects with this one!
Again-school colors...I have lots of high school kids!

These are my blocks

This is what they want to look like when they grow up

I like it. Love your colors of grey

quiltlady 06-20-2011 10:30 PM

The second example (cream back ground) reminds me of pick up sticks.

Not sure I would have the patience to do those narrow strips. Not very forgiving visually if your seams aren't exact. You are very deligent.

Looks interesting; I like the unusual colour scheme. May I ask if you are piecing each block or are those thin lines appliqued? Are they ribbon... :?:

hudgoddess 06-20-2011 10:35 PM

Bizzie, I'm piecing those suckers in. I started this a couple of years ago when I first started quilting and didn't have all the different techniques to do anything else. Now I'm thinking I may be a little nuts. I figured out how to line the "sticks" up when crossing other "sticks" and some may be a little off, but it's busy enough that it's not too noticeable.
Quiltlady: the cream background one is called Pick Up Sticks by funquilts!

I really like that...and the colors too

hobbykat1955 06-21-2011 01:22 AM

Probably would have been faster and easier usisng the couching yarn method. Good luck with it.

SueDor 06-21-2011 01:55 AM

Do a few every day and it won't get to you. Good Luck with it. Your off to a good start.

Painiacs 06-21-2011 02:17 AM

Neat looking!! Don't know if my eyes could take a lot of it!!

Yarn or Fabric 06-21-2011 03:03 AM

Very cool :)
Just do a few every week - before you know it you will be done :)

blueangel 06-21-2011 03:05 AM

Neat

MamaBear61 06-21-2011 04:02 AM

Very unique, stick with it, because it will be beautiful.

PaperPrincess 06-21-2011 04:02 AM

Love it! I agree with the folks who suggested doing a few a day.
I'm going to try this today! I think I'm going to start with a fat quarter, add the strips, then recut into smaller blocks. Is this how you do it?

kateyb 06-21-2011 04:05 AM

I have a pattern saved out of an older magazine. It was called pick-up sticks. It is on my to do list.
Love your color choice for background and I don't normally like gray.

QuiltnNan 06-21-2011 04:46 AM

great project.

hudgoddess 06-21-2011 05:54 AM

Princess, I'm starting with 12" squares and cutting the strips in then squaring down to 11". I'm using 3/4" strips. If I were starting it today, I might sew mini tubes and appliqué them!
Also, the idea of doing school colors is a little limiting. I added black and white to the teal and purple but wishi had more colors!

Twisted Quilter 06-21-2011 06:27 AM

Wow, I don't think I would have the patience for this one.

Good luck, and be sure to post pictures when your finished.

mtnative 06-21-2011 07:05 AM

I usually like more traditional but I really like this one a lot.

Grandma58 06-21-2011 07:06 AM

I like it!

jetnica 06-21-2011 07:17 AM

oh! are your school colors purple and teal?

The first school I taught at in Orlando, FL had school colors of purple and teal - and I swear as soon as I changed jobs that combo became trendy!!

Thanks so much for the info! I guessed right at the 3/4" strips, but thought the blocks looked smaller than 11. Still want to try this sometime today. I have a 3/4" strip cutter die. I'll let you know how I make out.
