You are awesome! How did you come up with the idea?

Very nice!

Thanks for your kind comments. Yes I had to pick the ties apart (grumble grumble), but later found I didn't have to take apart the very end; the hard part. You have to cut that off anyway. I got a book called "Daddy's Ties" by Shirley Botsford for all kinds of ideas. I did have to interface every one of them. All in all, it was pretty easy - same as a regular Dresden Plate pattern. But we'll see what happens when I applique the plate to the background - definitely new territory. Will keep posting; I love you guys.

Oh - to answer another question - it can't be washed. It will be an envelope style with a pillow-form insert so it can be drycleaned I suppose.

Thank you for this! I am a new member (10 minutes in) and researching Dresden Tie Quilts, my husband is retired and this is my next project. I know to pick the ties apart, stabilize them with interfacing and work in quarters. Any other hints so I don't pull out my hair?

Looks perfect! I too used a "blue oxford cloth" fabric for the background of a tie quilt but mine was simple lattice. Blue oxford cloth went with every tie. Your dresden is great. Good job.

Ties can be washed. I put my ties in a mesh bag and used cool water along with a "color catcher" and gently washed in my machine. Afer unsewing the ties I found there is a lot of material in a well made tie. I have made two quilts from ties, one a double bed size and latest one is a throw. Good luck to all of you making quilts, throws, table runners etc.
