Well, this is what I worked on today...I found all this stuff on the internet.... and worked with it on my own...made my own patterns and out of three different pictures came up with this idea.....I won't leave the scarecrow so big....I will drop some leaves down around him...need to make more leaves...and then I plan to run a vine around the letters with some appliqued leaves...just wondering if you think I need alot more leaves or no more leaves or "leave" it alone with this many leaves....arranged better of course..I just have them up there strewn about... what do you think...any and all comments welcome!!! please!!!
Leaves on top are scattered..plan more organization |
Sorry...that picture sucks big time...it is blurry and dull...it was after dark when I took it....
no sunlight in the room at all...of course itrained all day! LOL TG |
That maple leaf variation is very attractive, To me, it looks more like a gum tree leaf.
Oh that is going to be so darned cute CQ. I don't really think you need any more large leaves actually. I think if you're planning to drop some down around the scarecrow like they're "floating" around him, that might be enough. Why do you want to change the scarecrow? I think he's wonderful just the way he is. Can't wait to see this one finished. I love the vine idea around the lettering. It's gonna be great!!
Well the vine idea is not mine....I found a picture on the internet and am sort of "copying" the idea and that is how it was done on the pic I got....the scarecrow is off another pic and the leaves are just patterns I've collected! LOL I'm not selling or anything so dont' think I am infringing here....threw a few ideas together for this one
What I meant about not leaving the scare crow so big is that I will square that up to match the size my sister needs ...so the background is what won't be so big....how many more leaves should I do ...any or no more.???? should I just scatter the ones I have made? that was my concern |
OIC. I think you should just play around with the arrangement with the blocks you have and some other ones cut out to applique like you were planning, and see if that's enough. If not, it's probably wouldn't take too long to make another one or two of the pieced ones. No reason to make more than what works, right? Then you'd just have more UFOs to have to deal with, or store (or share~hint, hint  ) Get it arranged the way you think you might want it, then take another picture for us. Pretty please?

That's looking swell Patsy, I think you prob won't need anymore of the big leaves. I agree with Lin, maybe just a few smaller ones scattered here and there so they appear to float, would be good. love your scare crow I think he's very handsome :D
Maybe a couple more oak leaves, and it looks good, I can't wait to see it finished. Great job :D

Well, I've been "playing" with this all morning and have had it up on the wall now for over an hour without changing something! LOL What do you think?
I wish the lighting was better in here! And my battery died or I would have taken a close up or two...the crow has an eye and a wing you can't see in this pic.
Light or not light it's looking good! Will you applique some leaves under the scarecrow? It is cute! Love seeing the evolution of your quilt. Keep us up to date!

Well, still playing with this....here are two more photos with some changes... which do you like? Any other help or suggestions???
Oh gosh CQ they're all so cute it's hard to choose. I think I'm leaning towards the first change you made. With the scarecrow at the bottom by himself. And I think Yvonne's on to something re scattering some smaller leaves around the scarecrow. But either way, it's going to be a winner. I love this little quilt! :)
That is truly adorable! Love the fall pumpkins and scarecrow...and the leaves....they are great! :D
I love it either way but would vote for the leaves under the scarecrow.
How big will this be when you finish? |
I am making a bunch of these for my sister and the average size has been approx 20 x 30....sometimes I go over or under by half an inch! LOL Don't tell my sister tho!
I like the scarecrow at the bottom. But anyway you do it is gonna be cute.
Its cute no matter how you do it-but my preference is with the leaves at the bottom under the scarecrow. It just really caught my eye.

Good HEAVENS you're fast!!! That is just darling. I love the leaves under the scarecrow. That's a "10" CQ!!
With this heat I say "On the Halloween and Thanksgiving" too. |
I like that a lot. I wish I had your talent! I could never think of anything like that! I think allyou needsis a few oak leaves around the scarecrow and it will look great :-)
Mercy! That was fsst! I barely had time to tell you how cute it is and you're done! Good job!
Thanks everyone...most of these have taken up to two weeks to get done... I just realized this morning I did this one in six days! LOL So I guess you are right...I was fast with this one! But fun makes for fast "work" :D
Patsy,
Your not only fast but very clever! You know, I'd be happy to use that wall hanging for the whole fall season. No need for separate Halloween and Thanksgiving hangings. On to Christmas, I say! I love the way this quiltlet turned out. Super-duper! |
I LOVE IT! Wonderful work and so cute!
It's adorable!! You sure do work fast.
