I'm making this for my Mother who has just entered a nursing home after falling and breaking several ribs. She is 85. The nursing home is very nice, but her room needs some brightening. I think I will make a narrow border (1 1/2" finished) of perhaps the green and then a 3 " wide border of the brown. I'm open to suggestions and advice. I am about 2/3 complete.

That is so cool looking. She will love it! I might do the border in a brighter color.

I love this pattern. I just got the book and can't wait to get started. Your colors will definitely brighten the room.

That is really pretty! I like the green/brown border idea.

I have never put together a quilt with this technique. Thank you so much for posting as a WIP. I have recently started noticing Lattice Quilts and I really like the "woven" look to them. How did you learn this technique of piecing, is it in a book, on the net, a stand alone pattern?

Edited to add: Before I just so rudely burst forth with all my technical questions..

Your quilt is just lovely!

Interesting seeing it in progress. Maybe it's done with partial seams. Maybe.

I love the colors, and the pizzazz added by the striped fabric is wonderful.

Love it!
A word of caution, if it's going to be used as a quilt, take photos and put your mom's name on it in large letters. Residents with memory problems decide that something is theirs and will walk off with it. A better option may be a wall hanging.

It is done with partial seams and I got the pattern here on the QB just a few days ago. I agree the one fabric does read as stripes in the photo, but they are actually dragonflys.

I plan to embroider Mom's name, prominently, on the front and back of the quilt. She stays so cold, I really need to make this as a quilt instead of as a wallhanging.

Could you share the source of the pattern?? I'm intrigued.

What a great job you are doing on the quilt!! Love the color choices.

Very cool design! Are the strips tubes?

BeckyL 07-17-2011 05:25 PM

No, it is all individual pieces and it is constructed with partial seams.

This is the second lattice quilt I have seen on the board. They are so fascinating to me. Could you tell me where I can find the pattern.

Make sure you put her name on it. I had a lot of nice things dissapear when my Mom was in a nursing home. Its beautiful

emsgranny 07-17-2011 06:10 PM

Do you have enough of the dragonfly fabric to make a thin border of the green -wider border of print then another small border or just binding in one of the pinks - I think it would brighten it up.

I am soo happy to see you using fabric you bought from me especially for such a special quilt. I am glad someone is getting to use the fabric instead of it sitting in my "stash".

I will have to try the latice quilt sometime - its just great and you are doing a great job - cant wait until its done!!! cheryl  :D

Beautiful quilt. I hope your mother heals quickly.

BeckyL 07-17-2011 06:19 PM

Probably, I just need to be careful to not let it get too large.

Thanks for the kind words.

faslaughter 07-17-2011 07:43 PM

She will love it...What a wonderful gift...

Green sounds nice for the narrow one. Next to the green color, I like the purple. JMO

Oh my! That is greatness for a nursing home. Be sure to take the scraps and make a little window valance. If you need to use the curtains that are there, stand on a chair and hand baste the valance to them at the top. I did that for my grandmother's room and it turned out beautifully and she gets so many compliments!

My Mom's quilt never wandered the 7 years she was in the home, mind you we visited every day and I brought it home to launder. However they did manage to switch her glasses with another resident one time, now that was the staffs fault not a residents.
