Wonderful hubby bought me a Go few years back. And to date Ive got almost all the dies.. So over the years Ive used the Go to cut up my leftover scraps with whatever die fits the leftover scrap size. I have from 6in tumblers to 2in sqs.. Some are just getting to big for thier britches (drawers) and need to be made into something..

Believe it or not, I even save even the smallest of scraps (Yes, I have a UFO crumbs quilt -that needs to be finished soon hopefully)..

Well anyway my 3'in bin was getting full so this is my WIP..

my pile o' stash to use

This is what Ive gotten done so far..

Ive noticed quite a bit of stretching since it was cut & sewn on the bias . As you can see no starch/ironing was done here.. Whoops.. so heavy starching would be recommended for next time..

You see some 'ugly' fabric used.. Hopefully they will get lost in the quilt and meld well with the others not-so-ugly ones....

I love scrappy quilts of any kind.. I absolutely love to play with scraps.. There is just no 'wrong' way to put them together..

annieshane 01-09-2011 07:49 PM

Dummy me, I looked at one picture and thought you were working on placemats...was actually placements. Gave me idea for some of my little pieces. New project in the works! Do post your completed projects.

Looking good. You've got the beginning of a gorgeous quilt.

Friendly Quilter 01-09-2011 08:53 PM

It is going to be a beautiful quilt. I love scrap quilts. I am working on one now.

AngieS 01-09-2011 08:55 PM

Very pretty.

PWinston 01-09-2011 09:11 PM

I love how you've combined novelty prints, florals, plaids . . . a little bit of everything which is truly a scrap quilt. Based on your scraps, I think that you are partial to blues. Please continue posting updates as it progresses. It is going to be a gorgeous quilt.

Yea, seems like i have lots of blues in my scrap bins.. Not sure why or how since most of my quilts are scrappy..

BizzieLizzie 01-10-2011 12:19 AM

ok so I've got most of my individual blocks sewn together.. Still have the semi whites, greens, purples left.. but I was thinking of off centering them.. Which one is more pleasing to the eye?? there's alot of 'confusion ' going on in this quilt but I would like the squares to be noticeable in this mess of scrappies..

Centered

All older quilts were made with what was on hand! Looks great to me! You are doing what the old timers call make do and use it up! (Is that being green?)

ok I made just enough squares- what a coincidence! yea, that was so not planned as I didn't count I just matched and sewed.. The 'lights' don't seem light enough but ,well hey, it's a scrappy and will be perfect for our camper- No one would be able to tell if it gets a spill on it anyway its so busy.. .

so tomorrow Ill square them- some are just plain wonky- and hopefully get them all sewed together..

I am liking the 'off centered' look.. thanks for the advice..

More pics when Im finished..

finished the last block.. perfect count!

OK so I had these laid out on my dining table and took a step back.. I didn't like what I saw.. it didn't stand out like i wanted it to. SO I decided to move this there and that here and finally, I like the placement of my scrappy blocks.. I know crazy to think there is a method to scrappyness.. So then, now how do I keep them in order?? DING DING DING.. Light bulb went off.. I grabbed the painters tape and tapped it all the way across the blocks.. hmm.... then how do i transport them to my sewing room.. DING DING DING.. the cardboard rolls that the foodsavers baggies come off of.. Taped row numbers to the end of the roll and TA DA!!!!

OK for those of you who already thought of this, thanks for letting me in on that secret. NOT!! but for those who suddenly saw the light like I did.. Hope it helps..

rows 7 & 8

WOW! It's looking great.

I love scrappy quilts and this is great! And thanks so much for the painters tape idea! This will work well with taking blocks in rows off my design wall to sew together.

OK well Ive been sewing from 1am to 4am. Its the only un- interrupted 'me' time I have due to the cold snow days- schools out  ... With that being said some of my squares are a bit wonky, well not bad considering this is a scrappy quilt BUT i decided i wanted to change it up a bit..
I decided to put a sash between rows.. Only one way tho- horizontally.. Haven't sewed the sashing yet but this is just a visual of what I think i want to do with it.. ..

So whatcha think?!?!?!?!

Carol Carter 01-13-2011 12:30 PM

I like the 2nd picture.

Carol Carter 01-13-2011 12:31 PM

I wanted black borders in between my rows not only to make this quilt larger but to hide my mistakes.. Yup quilting at wee hours of the night your eyes plays tricks on ya.. (yea that's my story and I'm sticking to it !!! ) My blocks are all wonky and soooo not evenly square , but I quilted along anyhow.. My first plan was to make each row off centered on point.. With the borders it looks like a lot of ciaos going on.. Being scrappy I wanted it to have some thing going on but, ciaos?! , yea, no not so much. SO I went to the original plan on point even rows..

Here's what it kinda is starting to look like..

I love mine... it helps me organize and use up my scraps.. I love scrappy quilts so its perfect for me.. I would recommend the Go not the Baby Go.. you get 40% more die usage on the Go than the baby alone.. Dies can get costly and I suggest you always have an extra mat of each size as a back up as they wear out..

carolaug 02-28-2011 03:21 AM

wow...this is AWESOME
