"Wonderful women" project stuck
4 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I've been very busy and tired lately and today, I finaly found some time to post on the board. 3 years ago I bought a precious book about fabrics and clothes, filled with beautiful pictures of women from all over the world, wearing tradicional clothing. I decided then, to start a project inspired from the book and last week I found, cleaning my space, the squares I've made then. I finished the one I've let undone but now I'm stuck because my inspiration is not coming back as fast as I thought it would be. I'm sharing with you my 4 appliqué ladies and I hope to find some help in my inspiration quest. Those are goregous. Hope you finish as you are definitely doing a great job.

Looking at your blocks I was in awe how you were able to be so expressive through the positioning of each figure and their body language. I truly, truly hope you continue your project through to completion as I think you are going to have a very expressive piece of art when you're finished. Please keep going and let each block speak to you as you've done with these first 4.....

If the inspiration has left than I would downsize my project to get it finished. Maybe I would appliqué a large earth with the continents and put the smaller blocks around it?
|
These are all beautiful - the simplicity of the blocks, the grace of the poses, the fabrics you used. Just throwing this out there but maybe you could create some smaller blocks as accents and use them to show native flowers, an item of significance like pottery or a hint of a building.

Beautiful! Love all the detail!!

Incredible work!!
Getting them out, I can understand your not finding the inspiration immediately. It'd be something you need to be in the "zone" to do. Perhaps having them out and visible will bring back your enthusiasm to continue. Regardless, you have four outstanding pieces ... they could be finished into a wall hanging or small quilt or individually if you decide not to continue on for more Wonderful Women. |
They are absolutely beautiful blocks. I wonder if you look at the pictures in the book and then go to your stash to see what fabrics you have that are of similar look if that would help? Also when I trial paints I hang up swatches and as I walk by them for a while they speak to me......maybe hanging your beautiful blocks where you will pass them will help? Good
luck and please post when you finish!!!!! |
I like the Idea of the world with the ladies around it or just he continents in blocks near them. The blocks you have done are beautiful.

DebbE took the words right out of my mouth! I haven't seen this sort of pattern before, but I have lived in various parts of the world and know that women, especially mothers, of good will are the same everywhere. You don't need words, mother to mother (or in my case, now, grandmother to mother), only smiles and perhaps a touch. I don't want to sound political, but the truth is, we all have similar needs and concerns. Your 4 blocks bring back a lot of memories and I actually yearn for you to finish that quilt and post it. Sofireno, pm me when you do, so I can't possibly miss it! Actually, if you could keep going with some enthusiasm, I think it should be just the squares of the women, the world would be understood because of the pictures. How big are the pictures? If they are at least 6"x larger they will stand on their own. 8"xtaller would be even better. This is such a beautiful beginning! |
I think once you start sewing a new block, inspiration will catch you like wildfire. Even trying out different fabrics for a block might start the inspiration flowing. This helps me when I feel too tired to sew.

Oh Child, those are absoutely beautiful!! you do wonderful work.
|
Oh, how wonderful! It will be a masterpiece upon completion! :)
|
Interesting blocks! What a fun find! :)

I don't have words, they are so wonderful
|
Oooooooooooh sooooooo beautiful
keep going |
It's a long time since I've posted this note and I just found out all your answers!!!
Thank you very much for your comments, they are very helpfull. My major problem, and I think I'm not the only one to have it, is the lack of time to sew and therefore, I forget my projects and inspiration because my attention is taken away by my daily routine. Moreover, I've nobody, except my children, to share my passion for sewing. I live in a small town in a region where quilting is not really common so I often feel alone. And the other problem is that I've started several project and I can't finish any of them because something new came by and I want to quilt it too; my latest project is a Dear Jane, so... I hope to find time to finish my ladies and give them the right treatment they deserve! |
They look great.
