Thank you, everyone! Yes, in between the colored mosiac tiles, I used black fabric. I also used the same black fabric for sashing. I saw a tutorial on this, and she made one with white instead of the black. I thought the black was more visually effective. It did take a whole lot of time to assemble, but I found it very satisfying. Just don't want to make one of those too often, ha ha!

The lead-work is not that hard. I cut strips of black 3/4 inch wide, sew that on one side and then sew the next piece onto the black with the quarter inch leg of the presser foot running right up against the last seam. That comes out almost perfect every time. I just need to make all the seams straight, no crooked lines.
I've made borders around several blocks in large quilts this way. I put a base line under my pyramid border like that. Looks great.

Your quilt is fantastic. This type of quilt has been on my bucket list for a few years. Need to reduce that trash/stash pile of little pieces.
